Most of the improvements in this CPU show gains in server performance and... wonder of wonders... video encoding. As yet I have not seen any test showing Vegas performance but based on the video tests I have seen it looks like Core i7 will offer a significant advantage over Penryn and Conroe.

Most video tests are showing a 2.66GHz Core i7 outperforming a 3.2GHz Penryn Quad. That's a sub $300 cpu besting a $1000+ cpu.

Core i7 should scream. Intel did a major improvement of its L1 and L2 caches with better "searches" for on-chip data. I think the eight core design with its power-on/off individual cpus will be great, possibility lead to a great killer laptop! The three channel memory is really a must, but 4channel memory would be better but more expense in design for mass production at this time.

Hyperthreading is back with Core i7 so with mulithreaded video applications we'll hopefully see all 8 cores (4 physical + 4 virtual) chugging away on those long renders.
