Correct settings for "new project" and for rendering

I have a Pentax S4 digital camera, and I will be using the still photos as well as the avi movie files taken with the camera to make a DVD to share with friends/family. I would like to know the correct settings to start the project with, keeping in mind the finished project will be burned onto a DVD, and I will be using DVDA for this.

For the capture settings, which is the best one?

Multimedia (320*240, 15,000 fps)
NTSC DV (720*480, 29,970 fps)
NTSC DV 24p (720*480, 23,976 fps)
NTSC Standard (720*486, 29,970 fps)
NTSC Square pixel (640*480, 29,970 fps)
NTSC Cropped (704*480, 29,970 fps)
NTSC Video CD (352*240, 29,970 fps)
HD 720-24p (1280*720, 23,976 fps)
HD 720-30p (1280*720, 29970 fps)
HD 720-60p (1280*720, 59,940 fps)
HD 1080-24p (1920*1080, 23,976 fps)
HD 1080-30p (1920*1080, 29,970 fps)
HD 1080-60i (1920*1080, 29,970 fps)

And for the framerate?

12.000 (half film)
14.985 (half NTSC)
15.000 (multimedia)
23.976 (IVTC film)
24.000 (film)
29.970 (NTSC)

The camera takes the avi movie files at 320*240 15fps. (open DML motion jpeg). The stills are taken at 2304*1728 pixels.

As far as the rendering of the edited movie (to be latter used in DVDA), I was planing on using "MainConcept mpeg-2" for "save as type", and under Template use "DVD Architect NTSC video stream" (not sure what the 24p one is for), and do a second rendering using "Dolby Digital AC-3" for "save as type", and under Template use "Stereo DVD" and then import both these files into DVDA to burn to the DVD. Does this sound reasonable?

What you said you want to use is the best. Make sure you choose best on the first tab, and If you video length isn't too long, I choose CBR of 7000000. Rendering to HD won't matter since it will have to be recompressed to standard mpeg2 when DVDA renders it playable for a DVD player.

Thanks cheroxy.

I have choosen BEST on the first tab as you say, but I have a couple of questions still.

When you say CBR of 7000000, what are you refering to?
What about the capture settings, and the framerate settings when starting the project?

Start with NTSC DV 720x480. 29.97 fps

The final DVD is meant to play on a TV from a DVD player, right?

You'll probably need to make some decisions about the frame size of all the media. Vegas will attempt to fit everything in the frame. The 320x240 files will start out blown up to fit the frame so you may want to scale them back down.

I foresee you asking many, many questions...

rmack350 ,

Thanks for the reply.

I'll do as you suggested, and yes the dvd will be played on a tv from a dvd player.....
