Corrupt files

I probably have a bad disc or something happened in transfer. I made a video with mixed files. Some where mp4, some jpg.
At some point the editor freeze when i used playback. Sometimes Vegas 20-411 sorted it out, could take a minute.
Same with rendering, Vegas could freeze, no error code.
After extensive fault investigation I suspected a single corrupted mp4 file. Replaced it and used an other disc, problem fixed I though. Noticed also that some jpg where causing bad image on the rendered video. Replaced them as well. Problem fixed.

Is there a built in check of the files done in Vegas? If not, would it be possible to put some in? Took me a day to understand the issue. No error code from Windows, no from Vegas.

That would be a great thing for VEGAS to have.

@HelgeK

Maybe your disk is corrupt. You should check for CRC-error - cyclic redundancy check.

Try this: Copy the corrupt file, and if you get an error message saying CRC error, you have to replace the disk.

Hi!

Think I found the cause, a faulty XQD Card reader i used to transfer files from camera to PC. Replaced it with a new one and overwrote all files. Now Vegas working perfect.

Still wondering how it can effect files in a way without causing any alarm from OS or APP?!

Only indication I got something was out ofthe normal was that transfers from XQD-reader took longer then it usually does.

Vegas doesn't have a way to tell, unless the GOP structure is too corrupt for it to load.

In fact, the only software I have that is capable of such deep analysis and repair of mp4 has been discontinued.

There may be Write errors on your data card. For camera transfers, use only best available, such as Sandisk.

Here is a study of how media defects manifest themselves on various hardware, O/S and Vegas Pro versions.
