Cost Effective Upgrade

I'm a licensed owner of VMS-Platinum Version 8 and would very much appreciate suggested sources and methods to legally upgrade my VMS to Vegas. I seem to recall an email from Sony offering a 25% discount during March, however, I suspect there are a few keen consumers on this Forum who'd have more cost effective solutions. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

I'm not positive, but I think one of the ways was to buy a copy of Vegas 6 from B&H Photo for $99. then upgrade from there with Sony for about $150 more, but you'll need somebody to provide the Sony link that has the upgrade price. I'm not sure what that price was, but I think I'm close.

You can buy Vegas 6 from B&H Photo for $79.

Then upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 for $199.99 at Safe Harbor.

Or you can buy Vegas Pro 8 for $299.95 at B&H Photo (CD only).

That's pretty annoying. I've had Vegas since it was VideoFactory, upgrading all the way. I just upgraded again from Vegas 7 + DVDArchitect (THE most expensive package!) to Vegas Pro 8 and that cost me another $235. :( :( :(

If you had upgraded within the first month or so, you could have purchased Vegas Pro 8 for $150! You should have received an e-mail with this offer from SCS.

I recieved this email e few days after I upgraded. They didn't send this out the first days of availability of the upgrade - I guess it will cost you to be up front :(

Ulf-

I've read of numerous folks who received a refund from Sony for the difference between the special "early-bird" upgrade price and what you paid. It's been a while now, so it may not work, but I think if you email Customer Service with the date of purchase, purchase price, & a scanned receipt they might hook you up!

I didn't upgrade initially because I wanted to sit back and read the forums and see if it was really worth it. So I missed the "early bird special". OK. But what's more frustrating is that if I had bought not direct from Sony, I would have gotten it cheaper. I've been a faithful customer of Sony's for *many* years, and now I see that I'm paying extra for that privilege. :( You live and learn. Next time, I won't buy direct from Sony, so they'll get less money for the product.

Alll these links are good. The best deals are right after Madison releases a new version. Then the Full and upgrade goes on sale. While $99 for the V7 disk is a good deal Vegas 4 in the box for $50 from fleabay is better and works just the same for upgrading.

Just to clarify, this is true if you buy the upgrade directly from Sony. The discounted Vegas upgrades that have been showing up on BHPhoto and other places require that you have Vegas 6 or 7 installed. Some retailers' listings don't mention this, but it has been reported on this forum to be true.

Rob,

Thanks I did not know that.

I bought my daughter VMS Platinum 6 at Edu Price (K thru 12 students qualify). Yes she actually edits her own videos for school projects. Then I bought Vegas 4 from Fleabay and have done the 7 and 8 upgrades direct from Sony at the just released bargain upgrade pricing. I had Vegas 3 LE bundled with a Canopus Card and Madison offered to do the Studio to Pro upgrade but that was more expensive than the path I took.

I wonder how many kindergarteners are using their edu priced Vegas pro and Sound Forge products ???

Here's another deal on the upgrade for $149: http://www.videoguys.com/vegaspro8.html and another for $154 ($129 after rebate): http://www.cwol.com/software/sony-vegas-dvd-upgrade.htm

Oh wait, here are more deals listed here: http://shopping.msn.com/prices/shp/?itemId=871260242 (CompUSA and Tiger Direct, as well as Amazon—which is really Tiger Direct.)

I was able to get in on the great price by getting Vegas 6 for $79, and then getting an upgrade to version 8 from Tiger Direct for $99. Tiger Direct has since raised the price to $129, but it's still a great deal!
