Could you give me a good reason to buy version 18?

JeanPierre-Lugarini wrote on 10/14/2020, 8:20 AM

Hello,

I am a Vegas V16 user. Last year I bought the update to version 17. This version 17, I have never used it! Indeed, in V17, the Boris FX10 plugin does not work. I'm talking about Boris FX10, not Continuum. I am a fan of the transitions offered by this plugin.

I don't have a black and white video to colorize. I do not, or very little, tracking. I already own stabilization (Mercalli) and denoising (Neat Video) plugins. I am an amateur videographer. I edit my vacation movies. The rushes are in 4K. I admit I have quite a few issues with the stability of the application. But I'm really not sure the V18 is more stable.

So, could you give me a good reason to invest in an update for almost $ 200? By the way, we will notice that the Dollar / Euro ratio is not favorable to Europeans!

Thanks for your advises

Jean-Pierre (French User of Vegas since V4)

It sounds like you already have you answer. If you are happy with 16 and don't use 17, why would you want to upgrade to 18? For stability you might just download the test and decide for yourself if it is any better. With my system 18 is better than 16, but NVIDIA drivers have also improved since I used 16.

So, in summary, in my case, you think that there is no improvement in VP18 that justifies an investment of 200 €

Please download the trial and find the solution for yourself. 😉

Yes. That is the best answer.

Personally, I have found 18 to be more stable and have much better hardware playback acceleration, so that is most definitely worth the upgrade fee... regardless of the solid list of improvements and added features.

(Don't forget Vegas Hub & Prepare are coming. Hopefully soon?)

@JeanPierre-Lugarini I would second the points Kinvermark makes, HW Acc. + so far, far more stable than vp17.

The best reason to upgrade is because it adds value to your work.

The only real way to determine if it adds value to your work is to try it.

As others have said, download the trial. You'll have a month to work with it to decide if it's worth it to you.

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]

Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

15 to 18 is a pretty big jump. Big improvements to stability and GPU decoding in my experience. Vegas taking care of video levels automatically is convenient, especially if you mix images and video. You may find the color grading panel useful.

When working with 6K H265 even on my moderate computer both my intel and AMD GPU are registering over 60% and it works great (I of course crop this for 4K or 1080P). From 13 to 18 Magix has made a mature product front line again (just look at the grading advances). I don't any commercial work now, but some days I spend hours using Vegas and on a reasonable machine without VX's that cause trouble, it is truly a professional solution as a NLE. the whole is greater than the sum of the parts in this case IMHO. Just be aware of pilot error.
