Countdown timer

magbogs wrote on 6/5/2022, 8:57 PM

Hi,

I looked up video tutorials but none I've seen show what I want to do.

I have a 1:11 video that I want to have a 365 day countdown on, so basically it will start at 364:23:59:59 and will essentially run down the clock until the end of the video to 364:23:58:49

So technically, the first 2 time sections will not change.

I see how to do the countdown timer itself but I don't see an option to specify any kind of custom amount. Couldn't find a green screen timer to overlay it with either.

I appreciate any tips. Thanks!

Three ideas:

1 - NewBlue have a great Time Clock Plug that would do it, but NewBlue haven’t so far been able to make it work for my setup which also uses ColorFast2. I’m sure somebody from NewBlue would be willing to assist.

2 - Render a Count UP with an ALPHA Channel, or GreenScreen, and then Reverse Envelope.

3 - Render a Count UP image sequence an ALPHA Channel. and then Reverse Envelope.

I dont think you can specifically set the timer to certain timecode. However you can try follow this tutorial.

Imho the "new" OFX-handling of build 636 causes problems.

When I use time clock ofx from NewBlue in VP19 Pro B636, more options ( section: Start Time) appear than in VP18 Pro, but the countdown does not work, or starts briefly with a short step (but not the planned 1 second), then stops.
The same procedure in VP18 Pro leads to desired result without any problems.
time clock ofx is from the "Elements" from 2017.

Also OFX Clock from Harald Linke does not work as desired under build 636. Although the countdown runs, the placement on the screen can not be done correctly.

@frmax 👍 I had a play with Newblue Time clock earlier, it doesn't work for me either 😒

Somebody from NewBlue should now step in.

Curious as to if this relates to the B636. It worked for me on an actual video clip, but on a media generator solid color, nope.

@alifftudm95 - Yeah, now do a test and Reder-out the solid colour and repeat.

Render-out the Solid, THEN apply the Clock.

Imho it´s a problem only of Build 636, in VP 18 it works (as said before....)

@frmax - About “Time” NewBlue got with the Software and seriously improve matters.

I spent several days last week working with NB support trying to make it perform, it came down to either having NB ColorFast2 or Clock. So far I’ve elected to keep NBCF2 working.

OP here. Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up using OBS and recording a web timer then pip screening it. Simple but worked for my needs.
