Three considerations:

1. The B6 has better sound quality, but the difference is not large. I have compared most of the popular lavs, and IMHO the AT899 is the least expensive lav that sounds good enough even for picky people. The B6 is better, and the Sanken COS-11s is a smidgen better than that even.

2. The B6 is the smallest lav. It is really tiny, which makes it possible to hide it very easily. Big difference from the others.

3. The AT899 comes with a 1.5V AA adapter so you could hook it up to an iRiver. The others don't so you'd need to spend even more money on this.

Well, that clinched it. I just orderd an ATW-U101(here) with a AT831cT5 lapel, and then an AT899 for an i-River.

Are there any suggestions that you might have for 2way headset communications?

i would exactly agree w/ Coursedesign.. except i would say the CM has a bit less clothes handling noise than the sanken - but the sanken has better LF (i seem to recall)

i love countryman mics - but unless you really need it to be totally hidden or flesh colored or something, the AT is a great buy ..

The AT831 doesn't sound NEARLY as good as the AT899. Also, the AT831 is cardioid and the sound will change level and tone as the speaker moves his/her head. It is very picky about placement. Unless you really need the cardoid pattern to reduce ambient noise pickup, you will probably be pretty disappointed with the AT831 when compared to the AT899.

I use the 899 for all the training vids...I love it. Personally, I like it better than the Countryman, but I'm super excited to start playing with the new AT lapel version of the 892. It's a pinhole mike, but the 892 sounds terrific, so I'm hoping the pinhole sounds just as good.

I've thought about a beige 892 for both bride and groom and then a mic for the officiant. As a premium pkg. stating the better quality for more money.

Getting an 830 for the other one for now. Perhaps better later, but it's an omni at least.

as Far as I can tell the only specs that are different is a little bit in the roll off in the bottom range (does that affect the quality that much?) - is it going to be so much worse than the 899?

There is a whomping difference between the 830 and the 899, you'll be correcting a lot of bottom and top in the 830 if you're trying to match them.

well, I'm really only planning on using one or the other for my audio (the other is just in case of problems - it's for backup) I guess I will use the 899 as my main. I am planning on using it with an i-River so that I would get un interupted audio in case there had to be tape switching during a ceremony etc...
