CPU usage rendering a second time

Found a strange thing:

Just put one big picture (i.e. 2272x1704 jpg) on the timeline.
Render to 16:9 1360x768 wmv with make movie.
Check CPU usage with Windows Task manager. It is 85-100%.

After rendering has finished render again.
From now on CPU usage is only approx. 53% every time you render.

Close and restart VMS and render again: The first time CPU usage is 85-100% thereafter again only approx. 53%.

My CPU is a Dual core T2500. In VMS I have allowed 3 parallel processes. I render to another drive as where the source is.

Is this a Windows XP issue or - any good idea??

Ritsmer,

It's not clear to me why you think there is a problem here. Maybe Vegas does some processing the first time that is cached and doesn't need to be done the second time. Doesn't seem like an issue to me.

Sorry, that I did not explain properly: The first time I render efter having started VMS the render time is 13 secs - thereafter 25 secs.
If I then close and open VMS the render time is again 13 secs - but only the first time - thereafter again 25 secs... That is the real issue.

Ah. Now that's completely opposite of what I was thinking. You may be on to something here, but probably would be best reported to Sony along with your data so that they can figure it out.

I did report to Sony some time ago - but they told me "not to use lots of FX" etc. - which I actually do not do in this example having only one single jpg picture on the time line....
I tried to tell them this - got no answer but: "case solved" .
I do not blame the people getting several more or less clear descriptions of new cases every day.

But maybe we could check this together? Could some of you please try the same thing?
It is very easy: just put an approx 2000x1500 picture on the time line to last for 5 seconds and start rendering 2 times and check if there is a difference in rendering time between the first time you render after VMS is started and the following times??

If this thing can be recreated on more machines then we have a better base for reporting it to the Sony specialists.

Just took a 2304x3072x24 picture, put it on the time line for 10 seconds. Rendered as wmv. Took 1:24 and used 100%. Rerendered it again with exact same results. Using V6.

ritsmer,

Tried what you suggested with a 2272x1704 jpg in SVMS 8.0c PE, and rendered out to WMV (v9, default template). First render took 14 sec, subsequent 16 sec. Reopened the project and every render took 16 sec. Not close to double as you saw.

You may want to look at background processes running on your system that might be interfering (e.g. virus checkers). Also make sure your system meets requirements for memory.
