Crash at startup in new fresh computer

stephane-gourdin wrote on 8/1/2023, 7:00 AM

Hi,

Using Vegas for a while. juste bough 20.0 in about 3 month. All work fine on my old computer (win10 + i7-6700 + 16Gb + Gtx1660Ti + Voicemeeter).

Just buy a new computer (i9-11900 + 32Gb + Rtx3060 + Voicemeeter). Fresh clean win11 install, all driver up to date. When launching, splash screen work fine, Vegas open up but all are white (except the line under the preview area) and crash.

already test in admin mode, by removing voicemeeter, disconnect from internet, keep only one screen, always same result...

log file in appdata all say it's ok (I check all the file)

Is vegas not compatabile with i9 or rtx or win11 ?)

No, there is no incompatibility. Is it the current version of 20, build 411?

If so, maybe do a support request as it's not clear why it's crashing and it sounds like there is no crash report?

stephane-gourdin wrote on 8/1/2023, 7:11 AM

thanks. of course, it's the last build 411. looking all around, found nothing like crashreport file :'(

... Vegas open up but all are white (except the line under the preview area) and crash.

With the crash is there a "Vegas has stopped working' window popping up? If yes, click on the bottom checkbox (more details) of that crash window and upload an image of that window to the forum so that the fault module can be identified.

Also, which build number of Vegas Pro 20 are you using? - the latest is build 411.

Is vegas not compatabile with i9 or rtx or win11 ?

Yes, in all cases - but is the RTX driver the 'studio' version rather than the game ready version? 'Studio' is always recommended for programs such as NLEs.

Voicemeeter doesn't mention on its website that it is compatible with Windows 11, so maybe run a free registry cleaner like CClenear (many others available as well) to get rid of any Voicemeeter 'ghosts' that might still be in the registry even though the program itself has been deleted.

Another suggestion after doing that, reset Vegas Pro back to its default settings using the process outlined here.

also made a clean uninstall of all program with registry cleaning.

vegas show me white screen and disappear without message or other thing :(

mark-y wrote on 8/1/2023, 12:02 PM

The "white screen" crash and disappearing act is almost always a graphics driver problem. To test this idea, go to Options->Preferences->Video and set "GPU Acceleration of Video Processing" to "Off," close and restart Vegas.

If the problem goes away after doing this, search the forum for possible solutions, which might incclude installing a different driver for your AMD card. There have been a few recent reports of problems with recent drivers, I can't be specific because I don't have one.

Voicemeeter is compatible with Vegas, but I recommend not using the same ASIO audio driver if both are open at the same time. Audio drivers are selectable in both applications, and a conflict will cause loss of audio playback in Vegas, but not the "white screen" fail.

RogerS wrote on 8/1/2023, 12:19 PM

It will be hard to change settings in Vegas as it crashes upon startup but trying a different graphics driver is a good idea.

Have you proceeded to update your: Windows, Optional Windows Updates in Settings on Advanced Options under Windows Update, GPU in GeForce Experience, Motherboard BIOS, and Drivers?

Have you also tried installing the main program that comes with the manufacturer that made your board where all driver updates will be located as well? (E.G.: Armoury Crate for ASUS)

Also you can only install either Studio or Game Ready drivers, can't install both.

If all of that is done and it's still doing the same thing then maybe re-install visual drivers or go back a driver update that could've possibly caused that.

If it's still doing afterwards then possibly re-install Windows as maybe some registry corrupted in the process of it due to some unnatural reason. Windows registries is like trying to decode and translate a badly written hieroglyphic document in present day.

If it is a Windows issue, before re-installing the OS try using Windows error checking procedure as per: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-system-file-checker-in-windows-365e0031-36b1-6031-f804-8fd86e0ef4ca

I decide to reinit my computer and write each step of what I do

-reinit windows
-disconnect windows account to local account
-setup static ip adress
-install thunderbird
-install veags 20.0b411
launch OK
-install firefox
launch OK
-moving users folders to D:\ (document, donwload, etc...)
launch FAIL
-reset user documents path to its default (c:\user\<username>\documents)
launch OK
-moving users documents to new fresh folder on D drive
launch FAIL
-reset user documents to its default on c:
launch OK

So, as a ticket is open, the only thing that block vegas to launch is the path of the user documents folder o_O

I still continue to install other software like voicemeeter and other, if other crash come, I will inform in this post

@stephane-gourdinΒ Hi, just wanted to mention, when I download software I save it to a separate hardrive where all my software downloads go, I then 'Open when done' or I go to that .exe Application file & click it, so Vegas will be installed from that hardrive, or whatever the right term is, (I don't move those files in that drive)

My Vegas folder in Documents has 4 empty sub folders,

jetdv wrote on 8/3/2023, 8:28 AM

If you're going to change the location of "My Documents". I would think you would need to do that BEFORE installing VEGAS.

Dexcon wrote on 8/3/2023, 8:35 AM

By all means have a Documents folder on the D drive - something that I do. But leave the C drive documents folder where it is because Vegas Pro uses the C drive documents folder for some purposes particularly when 3rd party FX settings and presets are used.

@jetdv that what I do for my first two first install of vegas. even when installing vegas after changing document folder, it crash. I do in this step to really test and find what cause the crash.

@dexcon yea, it's the best hing. for now, all my soft are installed and vegas still work fine
