Crash on Render

I am using Vista Home Premium SP1
I hvae a one hour Standard Dev movie on my timeline. When I render it, the render either crashes and closes the program or just stops at about 40% rendered.
I have searched the Sony Knowledgebase and see there a many things to try including re install of the OS!
Can anybody give me the MOST likely cause of the crashing on render. I have tried it 5 times so far, defragged the hard drive, turned off the virus protector and do not have too many other programs on my computer which is dedicated to video.

Thank you !

If it crashes at the same spot, find out what's in that spot, and remove it. It's the best way to debug something.

Also, what kind of format are you working with? Quicktime formats are known to cause problems on long renders/timelines for example.

A couple of things to try:

check your paging file is set ok http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/understanding-windows-vista-paging-file-size/

And check your dma is enabled.
