crash when closing any Video Event FX window

TheLoveDish wrote on 5/21/2012, 11:17 PM
Everytime I close any video event fx window the program crashes.

I am running Vegas Pro 11 build 683 on a Sony Vaio VPCL238FGB, Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1 with Nvidia Geforce GT540M running the latest drivers and I have the GPU ticked in preferences for the GPU acceleration of video processing, although it makes no difference whether I have it activated or not.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, it's kind of debilitating.

This sounds slightly different from the usual problem with all FX dialogs. Usually they crash while you adjust them rather than when you try to close them.

Try right-clicking on the icon you use to launch Vegas, select "Properties" from the context menu, and then select the "Compatibility" tab. Set Vegas' compatibility mode to something, even setting it to Windows 7 compatibility might help.

There have been a lot of threads in this lately. Search the forum for Compatibility Mode.

Thanks a heap Rob, I'm such a numbnut, all the time I thought it was automatically running compatability with Windows 7, then I discovered it was set to Vista, it's working perfectly now. thanks a heap for your very quick response,
much appreciated

Marcus,

Yours is the first post I've seen that says win7 compatibility works better than vista mode. That's interesting. I'm glad you followed up.

I actually posted this as a fix for the BlueTitlerPro crash I was having yesterday.....so maybe I was the first....but I actually picked this tip up buried deep inside another thread from a couple of weeks ago after running a search......and almost missed it because of the assumption that folks were talking about running compatibility with an earlier OS.

It really does seem like this should be standard setup for Win7 users now, even if it initially seemed counter intuitive.

@TheLoveDish,

I'm glad to hear you're both back to editing smoothly. In order to help us narrow down the cause of the crash, can you tell us what third-party plug-ins you have installed in addition to Vegas Pro 11? For instance, have you installed NewBlue Titler Pro? If so, are you running the latest version of that plug-in?

Also @mudsmith, what version of Titler Pro are you running?

Thanks in advance,

Paddy

Paddy,

Until I set comp mode to Win 7 (am running Win7-64bit-SP1) I could not use NBT Pro 120402 build, with VP11/683 and nVidia driver 296.10 with my 9800GT board.

I can use it fine with comp mode set to Win 7.

HTH,
Tom

@Paddy, although its very encouraging to hear users are getting better performance with the compatibility mode set, unfortunately my own experience is not so. No matter what setting i try, no matter what drivers, Vegas build, NewBlue titler or Nvidia driver version version i try, i get consistent crashing with the NB titler during any copy/paste actions. And crash on exit still occurs with the latest Vegas build. The ONLY thing that seems to have a positive effect is going over to Vegas 32 bit. NB are unable to locate/fix the issue.
It is very difficult to nail this down to a cause and effect scenario. I would like to help in any way i can, because I would love to see these crashes eliminated.

thanks
Paul.

I do have a friend who is doing a lot of HD editing with Vegas. He says his Blue Titler crashes stopped for him when he started doing frequent saves...........his only other comment was that the crashes seem to be generally related to video card and driver issues, but was not more specific than that......don't know much more about his system or card, so........

@paul_w, My problem is somewhat similar to yours, where none of the compatibility modes make any difference. The only thing that helps is disabling my Wacom tablet driver, and staying off my 2nd monitor when I use the NB Titler. These two things make my Vegas 11 system very stable. (I waiting for a permanent solution...)

I recently contacted tech support regarding the "Titles & Text" crashing Vegas Pro (build 683) whenever I'd changed a parameter (e.g. text colour) and then closed the dialogue window. Only the "Titles & Text" media generator causes a crash, everything else is fine - even NB Titler Pro. Tech support suggested un-installing, then re-installing via another administrator account, however, this failed to correct the problem.

Then I spotted this thread... :)

Running Vegas Pro under Windows 7 compatibility cures the problem, no more crashes when closing the "Titles & Text" dialogue window!

Many thanks for that tip!

Peter
