I recently upgraded to v 17. I'm using an Asus laptop. Initially nothing was showing in the preview window but that problem was resolved by disconnecting from my displaylink dock and using the laptop screen only.
Just as I was getting slightly proficient with the programme I hit a new killer problem: constant crashes. Following a suggestion from Derek at Movie Studio Zen I've deleted all cache. I then started up again and within 5 minutes it crashes again. I am always just performing basic tasks on thet imeline when it happens. I am using mp4 clips that I have downloaded from youtube. There are a few different clips. Could that be the problem?
I've checked for updates to the programme. There are none. Checked windows updates too. Tried to check for graphics drivers with Intel - they directed me to Asus, checked with Asus and everything is up to date.
I've been trying to think and the only change that I've made recently is that I've been including clips downloaded using the 4k downloader rather than the ones I've got previously via AVC. The other thing that I've only just started doing is using the clipper function in Movie Studio.
A couple of times when it has happened it has invited me to send error reports and I've sent these, but most times this is not offered as an option.
