I suggest you use Mike Crash's Smart Smoother plug-in instead of the Median filter. Once you start rendering, you'll realize why....

Not sure if it's directly interchangeable with median.

Oh yes! "Mike Crash's Smart Smoother" . .. Water colour is good . . however now try Newsprint and the Smart smoother and GLOW . . THEN we are into the realms of pointilism and the impressionists too! Add a bit of Sharpen, Bump or Height maps and you got something akin to Cezanne . .. there are others too . . but that's another story . . but what do I know?

We are only limited but by our own imnagination and conservative, hackneyed, narrow and traditional approach to this fine - VERY FINE - intuitive and yeilding software . . .

Grazie

The Smart Smoother gives it a different look and even on its highest setting (even chaining several of them together) it doesn’t let the color to splash outside the pen lines like a watercolor painting. I guess it’s too smart. ;-) Still it’s an interesting effect. Thanks for suggesting it.(it is certainly way faster)

I really like Smart Smoother and Glow together. Makes it kind of dreamy. Very nice.

If you want to do almost anything, export the video as a series of stills (VirtualDub or Ultimate S can do this). Then, use the batch feature in your photo editing program (Ulead's Photoimpact can do this) to apply any set of effects you want to each individual frame. The batch facility in the photo editing program applies the same effect to every frame. Then, use the Open feature in Vegas to open the individual frames as a movie. You can do some unbeliievable things with this technique. My favorite is to the Pen Color effect in Photoimpact.

I just created a quick demo WMV file. Click on this link to download and play the file.

Hey, cool tutorial - thanks.

I just did some tests, only over saturating the lower track and adding some highlight glow. Will try some Grazie-art tips with News Print and bump maps.

Johnny,
Thanks for taking the time out to create a tutorial. It's a cool effect, but more importantly, it inspires other creative directions as well.
Much appreciated.
