creating a theme/scene

I see in other postings that people create scenes or themes using Photoshop and other image tools, such as paint shop animation, maybe even Bryce(which I believe saves animations in avi format) what I would like to know is - when creating an image or animation in any of these programs - does size matter? is there an ideal size to make these or does Vegas do all that when it Renders the movie? I can see where having and being able to create graphics, and animations especially would be an advantage to being able to create your own opening scenes to a movie. opens up a whole new world of creativity! and possibilities. :)
