Creating freeze frame from video

Hello,

I would like to freeze the last frame of a video track. Is there a easy way to do this? I would also like to make a still photo from a video on the timeline. Is there a better way to do this other than creating a snap shot from the output window? I thought there was something in the properties to control this.

Use the velocity envelope. You can also right click on the event and choose properties and then uncheck loop to just drag out the last frame of the footage.

1.
The easiest/quickest way is to Export a Still Image of the Frame you'd like to Freeze.
Add it to the timeline where you want the Freeze to occur.
Then resume your video when you want it to continue.

2.
Another way would be to use the Velocity Envelope directly on your Video.
Just bring it down to 0 using KeyFrames.
Then resume your video by KeyFraming back to the desired FrameRate.

--I prefer #1 because I can manipulate that Still Frame in PhotoShop and create some really cool effects.

I hate using the velocity adjustment for a freeze frame because it always seems to shift somehow, later on in the production.

Here's my "step by step", and it's easy.
1 - create a folder in or near your project called "FreezeFrames YourProject"
2 - go to the exact frame you want to freeze on the timeline an split the track - "S"
3 - Delete the rest of the clip to the right. - Screen will turn black.
4 - Left Arrow one frame.
5 - In the top of the preview window is a little ICON for a Floppy Disk (what's a floppy disk??) - anyway, click to save the frame. Make sure to LABEL the frame appropriately; FF Jimi Closeup or FF explosion.
6 - Navigate to the FreezeFrame folder, and save the JPEG file.
7 - In the Vegas Explorer (tab on bottom) find the Freeze frame folder.
8 - Drag the new Freeze frame to video track on timeline - DONE

It took me way longer to type this, than to actually do it.

Thanks jrazz, for me, this tip is the easiest. I had been doing the "save last frame to a png" thing for a while, but next time I need to do this, I'm trying this way!
