Creating Rounded rectangle effects for video?

Does anyone know how to create rounded rectangle cookie-cutter type effects in V7?

The effect I want, is to have a small video overlay on top of a white background, that has rounded corners. default cookie cutter only has squares/circles/ovals, no option for rounding corners.. I want it non-feathered/non bordered, so feathering doesn't work.

Only workaround I can think of is to make a white alpha overlay border png that rounds the corners of the video...a graphic file that I manually place in a timeline over the video, to achieve the effect, which is a bit cumbersome .. any other suggestions?

the other effect I'm trying to get, is a drop-shadow, for that and other video boxes, in the main frame - any ideas how to get a drop-shadow effect from one video that's superimposed on another?

Yes I can see your method working.

However, making bespoke PiPs/borders, came up couple of days backTry this Ken.

This means your are working always within Vegas.

Oh, the other possibility is to fit "0" or "O" or a Dingbat circle or Quad into each corner and use this as a kinda MATTE. Bet it could be done?!??

Anyways, try out the method in the other thread. You may EVEN find you have more control and more options too!

Track shadow can do the job.

I am certain that Photoshop has a pre-made rounded rectangle shape. You could then do the black/white matte; parent/child track mask deal; I forget the specifics how to that because I rarely use it, but it's in the help file.

That would accomplish what you want to do on this.

Yup precisely.

Once it's set up, I don't think that it's cumbersome at all...but that's just me.

right... I'll have several video boxes though, and would like to scroll them and rotate them, on top of the background, with fx.... so it gets more challenging, if I use a png overlay... thx Jeremy re track shadow, I'll try that for the drop shadow effect...

that would be a great-selling vegas DVD probably, eg how to do specific animations and effects from within vegas.. if someone wanted to create a tutorial on it...

I wish someone would sell a bunch of veg files that do various effects such as this. I could purchase them, drop in my clips and alter them a little. I have seen some great stuff done in vegas, but most of the veggies shared on the vasst site and others are ok, but not great! If you build it, they will come (with their wallets) ...or at least I will.

You can definitely take those veg files that are provided at places such as VASST and modify them to fit your liking. I have utilized several and tweaked them to be what I need them to be.

I like the idea of free. I don't mind sharing what I have with others and I appreciate that others share. I still am very glad for Dave's 3d veg file that I modified to fit my needs. He saved me a lot of time by hanging the stills in 3D space. Anyways, there is a lot you can do with the ones already available, just tweak to your liking.

Rounded corner rectangles can be created with the Bezier mask tool in Pan Crop, but it's a bit clunky.
Rather than relying on the generosity of other users to put up vegs - fine for "unusual" settings and effects, but for commonly used things like this, Sony should provide these as presets.

I did make a veg for this effect for the community a long time ago along with another 70 or so veg files. Back then I used xtra cookie cutters in one chain on one event. Four circles for the corners and one rectangle. Today, I just use the bezier mask and save it as a preset for when I need it again.
