Creating transparent images

I want to thank everyone who responded to my question regarding compositing. I have Photoshop 7.0 and have lassoed an object I want to put into a Vegas project. How do I create this as a transparent image using alpha channels in Photoshop? Could someone give me detailed instructions
on how to do this in Photoshop? Thanks so much, Bob K.

Create it as a solid object in Photoshop.
Put it on its own track ABOVE the video track
Adjust the opacity slider down until it is as transparent as you like.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. I want to avoid having my object appear in the canvass (rectangle) - I want just the object to appear in Vegas. I am unfamiliar with creating transparent images using Photoshop which are useable in Vegas. Any very specific help with this will be greatly appreciated. Bob K.

If it is full screen it won't appear as a rectangle, but perhaps you could be more specific about exactly what the object is you are creating.
Anyway there are lots of tutorials for Photoshop on the subject of creating transparent images.

I use Macromedia Fireworks for it,
it is very easy to use

It's pretty simple in Photoshop. Cut the thing out and put it on it's own layer. Make all layers you don't want to see transparent. Vegas will display the image just as it looked when you saved it in photoshop.

However, you need to go into photoshop prefs and set "Maximize backwards compatibility...." to On or Yes or Checked.

And finally, it helps (but isn't required) to work on a 720x654.5 canvas for NTSC projects. 720x528 also works very well for NTSC and is a whole number.
