Creating Video Masks

I am trying to make a video mask for a wedding introduction. I have a 3D animation in the shape of a heart (about 20 seconds long). The heart opens up and shows a black background as it zooms in towards the viewer until the entire screen is black. I want to replace the black with the wedding video.

What I have done is set the mask track to a black and white video of the heart as it opens up. I then made my main movie a child of this track. I then added the video of the heart opening up as the background track (Refer to page 222 of Vegas 5 manual). This worked great for only the duration of the 3D animation. The main wedding video goes black before and after the animation. How do I get my main track (wedding video) to show up before and after the video mask I created? Is there a better way to do this?

I hope my explanation makes sense; it is kind of difficult to explain what I am trying to do.

Hi. I suggest you try the Chroma Key filter instead of getting into the complexities of parent-child tracks. As long as your heart animation does not contain any black (other than the background) then it should key nicely and allow the video to show behind.

Thank you Richard!

That worked perfectly.
