In my Audio device type, I have two options for 5.1 setup. Does anyone know which is the best to use? Creative ASIO or SB Audigy ASIO (A000)? Are there differences between the two?
I haven't experienced a huge difference either way, but then again unless you've got the platinum ex I think the ASIO support is pretty limited anyway.
To my knowledge the ASIO drivers are cool for monitoring your 5.1 mix, as they are supposed to allow the software to access each speaker individually - I think SOFO came up with a way to do this under direct sound anyway so it's less an issue. Otherwise (outside of VV4) the standard DX soundcard drivers use a downstream module that you can't access to handle the 5.1 mix for you, and you can't control the playback nearly so well.
RE: recording... If you've got the audigy 2 platinum ex you can record 6 tracks (or 3 stereo pairs) simultaneously using their ASIO drivers, though not having one I can't say how well this works, or if it does in VV4.
ASIO = Audio Stream Input Output,it is a Steinberg technology of hardware to audio application connection at less CPU usage. it provides reliable sync and low latencies (latency is the delay time due to audio processing inside the computer).
you will see the differce when you are dealing with midi and audio together, mainly latency and time. for vegas video, straight audio no midi, it is not a big issue, it will run with any sound driver. but i do highly recommend using the asio driver for monitoring. i am not a audigy user so i cannot tell you much. if i remember right, the creative asio has lowest latency for monitoring(if you are recording audio track on top of another track)
P.S. the audigy is best work with 48khz sample rate.
good luck :)
