Creative Ideas? Lets all share !!

Good ideas… in recent months I have been exploring new ideas for my home movies. Here is the best I have come up with so far:

When taking my son to a sporting event I take a short video clip or still photo of the arena that shows the “jumbo tron” screen and a side of the arena. Then using the overlay video track I can insert a short video clip or still photo of my son on the “jumbo tron” so that it looks like the arena put his face on the screen during the game.

Do you have any ideas like this you want to share with the rest of us? For me this is all about great home movies.

I am doing this short clip with my two boys having a snowball fight. In several places when one of them takes a pretty good hit, I want to repeat the actual pelting 5-6 times in a row. It's funny as hell. How I did this was mark the ins/outs in the trimmer and then copy/paste it into the timeline. I paste them with Cntrl-V so they are all bunched together, then do Cntrl-Click to select all and drag them left to where the sequence started. It's like this - chase the other guy around, cock, throw, hit, hit, hit, hit, etc. in rapid concession. Being new to VMS, I don't know enough yet about the regions and loops yet. It would be nice to make a loop on the timeline and tell it how many times to repeat it. Is that possible?

I made a video of me abseiling off a building, which included some footage I took as I walked from the lift at the top of the building, through the heating plant and out on to the roof. Taking the ambient noise down and adding a heart beat and heavy breathing was just corny, but adding a bit of noise to the video as well gave it a real, first person "dead man walking" feel.

This was a very simple quick-cut, but worked really well:

I create soccer hilite videos for youth rec and competitive soccer teams. A clip that always gets a laugh is to try to get a shot of a mom or dad shagging balls. At some point in the video, I'll show the mom kick the ball then a quick cut to the ball soaring into the net during one of the goals during the game, finally a shot of the crowd cheering, all placed over some over-wrought heroic music,. Simple stuff, but always good for some comic relief.

I have to tell you, that doesn't translate at all well into British English!! ;-)

Excellent point!!!

I'd definitely consider different music.
