hello wiser ones:
When I try to get a close up while using the "crop" function, it becomes blurry. Am i doing something wrong? Is there a better way to get a close up..or better yet, a zoom in?
You haven't mentioned what you are cropping, whether it's a video clip or a still image. If it's a video clip, then what you got is what you get. Video (generally) is only 720x480 pixels. If you crop to zoom in, then fewer pixels get spread out over the frame and the picture gets blurry/blocky. There's nothing you can do about that except to zoom in with the camera while taping the scene to begin with.
If you're cropping in on a still photograph that you have scanned, then use a higher resolution (dpi) when you scan the picture. If it's a picture from a digital camera then you'll have some extra pixels to work with while zooming in, but you'll eventually hit the same problems as with zooming in on a video clip.
If you're scanning a still to be cropped on the video, scan at a resolution that will give you 720 X 480 pixels when the still is cropped. For example, if you're cropping down to a 2" X 1" section of a photo, scan at 400 dpi so that you'll have 800 X 400 pixels when cropped--close to 720 X 480.
Also, save all still photos as .bmp files when scanned; compression, as in jpg or gif, will introduce visible artifacts.
