CROPPING?????

The cropping window in Vegas seems to be limited, am I right? I want to do some basic things like just crop the bottom of the video and possibly re-arrange the positioning of the clip as well, but the zoom always connects and is combined with the cropping. Avid offers very straight foward cropping similar to photo shop, but I'm not getting these results in vegas---any advice?
thank you

Look for the "Size about center" and "Maintain aspect ratio" buttons. Playing with those will allow you to do pretty much anything. Also look at the "Maintain aspect ratio" property of the event itself. If you want to move the image it is best to use track motion, not pan crop.

Try the Track Motion function, to reposition your frame. That may help. I just learned that lesson.

If you want to just crop the bottom without zooming then

look under Source in the properties window of Pan/Crop the second option is
Stretch to fill frame
Default is yes which will create your unintended zoom. Change it to NO and you can drag the bottom up and crop just the bottom without zooming or stretching the frame to fill.
