If your original clips are a little noisy - and this noise is amplified by the cropping - then the filter "Neat Video" from http://www.neatvideo.com/ (They have a free trial version.)
can do stunning miracles.

The original is fine, just looses sharpness when cropping. How do I use neat video to adjust an event?

Once you have installed the plugin, it works like any other FX - i.e. you find it in the list after pressing "Event FX" in the lower right corner in the clip on the timeline.
Neat then asks you to define a rectangle of your clip that should have no moving parts or any colour change - and scrutinizing this Neat can define a filter to remove whatever minimal digital noise there is in your clip.

I tried using it but didn't help much. I think after you crop a clip, and you loose some sharpness. There isn't much you can do about it. Looks like my clips are fairly noise free. Thanks for the help anyway.

Avoid digital zoom as much as possible, while filming or in the editing process, because it always causes quality loss.
Cropping in Vegas is preferably reserved to high-res still images.
