"cube out" effect

Hi all,

Anyone come up with a relatively easy method for cubing out an undesired part of the frame (e.g., someone's face in an anonymous interview)? I assume the solution would include the cookie cutter filter, but what do you do when the video frame is in motion? Do you have to painstakingly keyframe the movements of the cube effect? I'm sure the answer is yes, but I'm just curious to see if anyone has tried to do this, and if so how the process went for them.

Thanks,
Scott

I've done it many times - including following movement around the frame.

Duplicate the clip to an adjacent track, then use cookie cutter (Oval side shape) to isolate the part of the video you apply blur or pixelation to.

It helps to temporarily mute the non-affected event so you can clearly see the result. The cookie cutter can be resized and moved around to follow the face, and applying a feather edge helps to blend the two together.

It's not that painstaking - just click on the FX keyframe timeline every second or so to see if it needs resizing or moving. As you move or resize, the keyframe is created automatically.

Oh man, thanks, Peter. That's genius. Should've been obvious, I guess, but I didn't realize it would be as easy as that. I was done in mere minutes!
