Current recomendations for Vegas computer?

It looks like I'm going to have to get a new MB and CPU. I've been running with an Asus A8V/AMD 3300+ for a few years now, but it seems to be dead. I haven't paid any attention to what's going on in the land of CPUs, so what are some current recommendations for MB/CPUs which will run Vegas well? I'm not interested in going 64 bit, if that matters.

BTW: If you haven't done it in a while, this might be a good time to open up your case and blow the dust out of it, especially all of the dust which might be caked on to your CPU heat sink fins, blocking air flow...

If I was starting from scratch I would build an i7 940 with Windows XP64. Only downside to the i7 is you have to purchase DDR3 RAM - not an issue if you don't have high speed DDR2 already though as you probably losing much value. XP64 works fine with Vegas 8.1 on my system - and it's less expensive and less of a resource hog than Vista. EVGA has the best rated board according to Newegg reviews - if you don't mind being "limited" to only 12 GB of RAM..... :)

When I had my mine built a few months back I went with the Q9450 and it is pretty nice for the money then. Now it is even cheaper and the DDR2 is cheaper as well. From what I have read for our work DDR3 does not buy us much but it may be a quibble over tech specs versus real world. I went with a unit from IBUYPOWER and modified it to suit. Got a nice unit and excellent tech support on mine. It is one of their liquid cooled systems in a Thermaltake case. choose your MB and etc as you like.
