I think it depends on whether you click on an event or on an empty space. Clicking on an event moves the cursor. Clicking on empty space moves the play head.

Thanks for giving me some extra vocab on playhead vs cursor. I definitely have seen that while playing, you can click on the timeline and the playhead will play from the new cursor. (does that make more sense?)
I can't see a difference between clicking in empty space or an event. Spacebar and enter playback don't seem to be the key either.
You can get a similiar effect by playing and then making new regions-but its not exactly the same?

Are you sure the cursor is moving when the playback continues where it was. I see a new LINE being created (basically it looks like two cursors) if I click on a track while it is playing. If I click on the space below tracks, the cursor moves and the playback area changes with it.
