curves-text for vegas 8

how do you use the "curves" option in vegas 8 (within the text section)?---it seems as though i have to add a collection to the timeline before i can add a curve to the timeline, is this right?

make some text, make the path's keyframeable & then you can drag/drop to the timeline.
