Custom Crop or Shape in SVMS9

HardK0re wrote on 1/2/2009, 4:46 PM
I just got Sony Vegas 9 expecting it to allow me to make a customized crop using the "zoom/crop" tool, (maybe called the anchor tool or the bezier or something mask) and unfortunately, I can't. I've seen many tutorials in which there is an option "mask" in the bottom left hand corner of the zoom/pan/crop thingy, but there isn't in Vegas 9. Is there an addon or plugin I can use?

(If its any help, I'm trying to create a custom shape or cut around a complex shape in the footage)

thanks if you can help!

And if it's not possible or easy at all, can someone tell me where to get Vegas 7? Vegas 7 seems to have the effect I want. And If I'm wrong again, Is there a way to just download the effect?

No, you can't download just the effect. Vegas Movie Studio is very limited compared to it's big brother. You could get the full (PRO) version here:

The Bezier mask tool can be found only n the full Pro version (not Platinum or Platinum Pro version of movie Studio).

Use cookie cutter effect. Alternatively, make a mask using a photoediting software such as photoshop and add that in as on a track above the video you are masking. Further details can be found by searching in this forum.

Yes, you beat me to it. After I posted, I realized that a custom shape can be made in a photo editor. Here is one such thread giving directions:

I'm so mad though. I got it for christmas, and opened it, only to discover that you can't use the mask feature. Now I can't get my money back! And I don't feel like paying 435 dollars to upgrade to get the one feature. JUST ONE! And can someone tell me where to find vegas 7?

Vegas Movie Studio version 7 doesn't have this feature either. Only the full version of Vegas has it.

You can look on ebay and see if anyone is selling it. Make sure you look for the full version and not the Studio version.

No, I meant the full version of Vegas 7 (See, I never said movie studio) I have learned that Movie Studio = Anger and loss of money.

If you want just the Vegas video editing program, without DVD Architect (and the AC3 encoder?) you can buy a brand new CD of Vegas Pro 8 (only) here at B&H for $129:

Otherwise, as others have already stated, check eBay. Sony *does* allow users to sell their old copies of Vegas when upgrading to a new version, so you can sometimes find used copies available.
