>> Every menu item should have a keystroke and a button and all should be customizable.<<
So you'd like a toolbar that covers most of the app, something like how Word functions when all toolbars are open?
And there aren't that many keystroke combinations. When it gets past 3 keys, it's simply not manageable.
Most things ARE customizable with key mapping.
I'm not arguing with you, but do want to point out that having a button for EVERYTHING and having a keystroke for EVERYTHING is a little out of hand and not in the realm of reality.
Then again, press CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+T+6 for trackmotion. or CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+P+T for Print to Tape....Vegas is already running out of keystrokes. Just to dim audio, which I need to do regularly, is a 3 key stroke. Thank heaven for mapping and Mackie!

I don't like button happy programs, but if there is something I do a lot, and I have one hand on the mouse and the other on the jog control, I'd like a button or a right mouse click handy to use. Yes it could be a mess, but giving the user the chance to turn the program into a maze of buttons would help the practically minded add a couple of buttons. The two buttons I really miss are single frame advance and reverse.

What can't you do with the new keyboard mapping in Vegas 5?

Have you looked at the scripting interface? You can make many a tedious task and assign it to a keystroke and then assigne a button on the toolbar.

alt + the numpad numbers are very useful for this...
