"Cut away section"

To the gentlemen with whom I was speaking on Vegas chat, or anybody who can explain this:

I misspoke, as a result of not having Vegas open in front of me. "Cut away section" appears in several of the video effects, not the transitions, as I'd stated. Still, looking at the animations for the effects in which this choice appears, I'm at a loss to be able to see what it does.

Can anyone enlighten me?

It seems to do very little - it's a preset, part of several video FX as you say, but the ones I just looked at it seems the same as "reset to none".

I wouldn't worry about it.

In the Cookie Cutter, it will cut out the shape selected to show the video track below it. If you can’t see what it does, it may be because you have the size too large. Try sliding the size adjustment to the left to make the cutter smaller and then you’ll see the section that’s cut away get smaller too (leaving more of the original image uncut).
