Date information from AVI file

Hi all,
Can somebody tell me how to extract the date information from the captured AVI file. I need to know the exact date the footage was shot. I know that I can get this info by playing the original miniDV tape back in the camcorder but I wanted to understand if there was a tried and tested way of finding this from the AVI file?
Sony Tech support say that it not available in Vegas 7.
Some forums have suggested that the info simply is not transferred in the Firewire signal. Some also suggest that there are applications that you can use to view the info.
Does anyone know a good method?
Apreciate you help with this....
Michael.

Vegas won't do it without a plug in, but here is a program that will.

I do believe the date/time stamp is a column in the "Project Media" tab under the "detail" view.

Thanks for the link DaveT2,

It looks like I now have two ways to retrieve the original date information.
Your help with this is really appreciated. Thanks,
