Hello,Happy after thanxgivin!!;-)
Back to work as usual.
Ok.Can anyone tell me an easier way to do a mix using same
templates if poss/
Ok.Let me explain better.I have 6 songs that will be mixed
from the same band from the same session.Well since these
are all edit lists,is it possible to start with song A and
mix it down, then take the next songs and use the same
settings without having to do each mix manually using the
same settings?Kinda tedious. This scenario is the same as if
mixing through a outboard console for a mixing session.I
was trying to find a better way to do this in a daw setup.
Make a template from the first song??
Hmmmmmm..Ideas??

Yeah, That's what you do. You create a template so all the faders are
at the same level as the similar instruments as your previous mix.
Then, on the stereo Mix output, you put a stereo compressor in the
signal path and adjust that so the reduction meter is reading
appoximately -15dB, then turn the output gain of that compressor at
+15dB. This should eccentially take your mix and make everything
equally loud and stick it in the clients face, so they think you're a
great engineer. And after you're through doing that, make sure you
post the name and location of your studio on the internet, so
everyone else here knows to, not refer any business to you, for
trying to create a Ronald McDonald mix house, where all songs by the
same band should be mixed the same.

Hi David -
If I understand you correctly, by edit lists you mean you have 6 or
so different Vegas projects - one with each song? If the settings are
the same for each (i.e. track FX, bus effects and bus sends) why
don't you open two instances of Vegas and copy all of the songs into
one Master Vegas project. That way they just play out linearly one
after another with the same settings. Of course, this doesn't count
for any volume envelopes you might have but is this what you mean?

What the hell are you babbling about brian??
If you ever mixed before, yes it is common with the same setup on the
console
for the next song to start with as a reference,at least we do and
have for 15 years. And it is always not a great practice to compress
the final mixes. This was a joke i hope!!Usually wait till you are
totally finished or let the
mastering engineer do for you, which is what THEY prefer.Smart ass
answers need not apply!!!
Read before you get sarcastic!!
Thanx Charles.
My Question was just that,to be able to have the same settings for
the next set of songs to start a new mix on each; ie regular outboard
mixing.
I guess just making a template to start is going to be the answer.
Thanx any way.;-)
Just curious to a quicker way of setup.Saw has a save temp for all.
Thanx!

But, just out of curiosity, why not just put all the songs in one
project? Back to back with the same instruments on the same tracks?
Are these rough mixes for the client?

Brian - why the need to jump on someone when you don't even know what
they're doing? Even if you DID know what David was doing, your
response was not the most contructive. I don't get it.

Another way if you want to keep all songs separate:

Delete ALL the Events out of the first song you've mixed, then *save
as* 'templateX.veg' to a /Templates directory where it can be kept
for future use.

Open 'templateX.veg', add the appropriate wave files to the
appropriate tracks for the next song, then *save as* 'songname.veg'
to a directory of the same name, making sure that you "Copy all media
with project".

Repeat as desired.

I keep seeing repeated requests for SF to come up with "templates" in
Vegas ... IMO, you can make your own for the way you work down to
routing, FX, panning and bussing, a lot easier than SF could ever
come up with a universal one that would suit everyone's needs ...
then again, maybe I am missing something?

Just my .02

Thanx karl and charles.Notes well taken.:-)
I did make a couple of templates this way once before.I will make
this a routine thing thanx. We start mixes from the same board
settings and then go from there during a mix.Keeps everything in
check and allows more room for production rather than having to chase
the eq settings as much.If everything was recorded in the same
session and the artist wants to capture the best live/studio
sound;less artifacts and more of what the true sound was, then
starting with the same settings would only make sense since the
instruments were recorded on the same instruments, same days, same
rooms,etc.
You can then concentrate on the dynamics, adding more instruments for
texture,more creative.
Or if you like, call it producing. This is what we do.
Sorry for the words earlier guys.:-(

Ok, lighten up guys, yes I was just being a smart ass. Please,
except my apology. :-) I guess I had too much Thanksgiving Turkey
and had too much Christmas spirit in me this morning, and found your
guestion a bit humurous. Sorry for the Sarcasm David :-(

No problem ... an interaction with Fletcher-Munson induced harmonic
nodal build up in a control room and Turkey will do that every damn
time. Breathing deeply of the smoke coming from the exhaust fan in
the talent's bathroom will usually alleviate the problem ... or, if
you're lucky, a lingering gaze into the deep cleavage of one of the
backup singers may offer more permanent relief.
