Davinci Resolve Alpha to Vegas

Julius_ wrote on 7/25/2023, 11:13 AM

I thought this would of worked....

I have some titles in Resolve that I thought I could create an alpha channel, export it and bring it into Vegas 20.

I have Quicktime V7.5.5 installed. Depreciated Features turned on for Quicktime.

I try using DNxHR as this was the only option to get the alpha channel..and tried all the types you see on the drop down list.

What gives??

Quicktime properties do not always show correctly in Vegas Media Properties.

Try setting Alpha channel manually.

@Mark-y I dont even get the video when I drag it to the timeline..only audio appears...I usally do that step with the video is present

Are the Avid LE Codecs installed? Can you post the MediaInfo please.

@Julius_ Hi, Export Quicktime - Uncompressed - ARGB, no audio

In Vegas change Alpha to Straight

PS, your image shows a slider at the side, Uncompressed is hiding at the bottom

My post didn't register for some reason...reposting.

Yes this worked! the file size is huge 1.5GB for 4 seconds....well at least it works.

I might have a bigger problem because i cannot add any DNxHR clips to my timeline (yes, QT installed, deprecated feature is on too)

Thank you!

@Julius_ Hi, glad that worked, I have a few options to make images/video with an alpha background, all create fairly big files, it's just something i accept 🤷‍♂️

Sorry I don't know anything about DNxHR apart from what I've just Googled, put an @ symbol in your comment then you can tag someone & they will get notified, like @mark-y, but seeing as you've tagged this post as Solved most peopple on the forum are likely to ignore it, maybe you'd be better starting a new post titled 'DNxHR import,,,, '

@Gid thank you once again for this help! With 20TB of disk space, I think I can afford a few GB :)

Now, I hope to get back to newblue hilite text....seems there is always an interruption :)

I thought this would of worked....

I have some titles in Resolve that I thought I could create an alpha channel, export it and bring it into Vegas 20.

Wouldn't it be easier to directly use Resolve to put an overlay Resolve text animation on your video clip and use the rendered output in Vegaspro? It seems to me very cumbersome to make first a Resolve text animation., export with alpha channel and put that as overlay on a video clip in Vegas.

As alternative, instead of creating huge videofiles you can also export from DR a sequence of png files with alpha channel, which easily can be imported into Vegas. A 5 second png sequence uses just 12.5 Mb instead of 1.5 GB for 4 seconds video...

@3POINT This is just a little piece of the overall project that is in vegas right now. It's 9 video tracks and about 8 audio tracks, along with zoom's and other fx.

For the alpha channel, it has crossed my mind to do it that way if there was no more options.

Thanks

You show grassvalley and cineform, they produce much smaller files.

By default I don't think vegas has either, have to install codecs, from memory Vegas is bad at playing back DNxHR and cineform , GrassValley I think plays back fine.

No trouble importing DNxHD with Alpha into Vegas. DNxHR may have some problems.
