De-interlacing options

While importing 1080i footage, I'm setting project properties to include "blend" as the deinterlace method. Do I need to set deinterlacing options anywhere else (like during rendering) in the HD->SD workflow?

Also, as I understand it, setting the de-interlace field to blend does not really deinterlace (it only deinterlaces before the HD->SD scale-down and then reinterlaces before render). So, in case you really want to deinterlace (like for the web), how do you do it?

Just match your project properties to those of your footage, choose "best" quality for rendering, and select a deinterlace method (I prefer "blend fields") and render to whatever format you need. It really is that simple. If you render to a progressive format, Vegas will deinterlace and resize correctly. If you render to an interlaced format, Vegas will automatically separate the fields, resize them, and fold them back together at the new resolution. It's that easy. Yes you can do all sorts of extra steps, but my experience is that usually doesn't give you as good results as if you just let Vegas automatically do it for you. Again, the two important things are that you select a deinterlace method and choose "best" for your rendering quality. Vegas will do the rest on it's own.

Just set interlacing to "None (Progressive)" in your Render custom settings.
