Debugmode Frameserver Probem With Vegas Pro 8

craftech wrote on 5/3/2009, 11:31 AM
I have never had a problem using the Debugmode Frameserver before. I recently upgraded to Vegas Pro 8 and get the following error when trying to create a signpost AVI file:

"Unable to create signpost AVI file. Please close any applications that might be using this file and try again."

The project won't open in Vegas 4 to try it from there, but Vegas 4 doesn't seem to have a problem with frameserving a project created with Vegas 4.

So I tried some unedited footage on a new timeline in Vegas Pro 8 and now had no problem creating an AVI frameserver signpost file for some reason..
??????????

Something is preventing the frameserver from working with both of my completed separate projects in Vegas Pro 8.

Anyone have any ideas why? I normally frameserve to Procoder 3 to create my Mpeg 2 video streams, but I can't get past the creation of the tiny signpost file this time. My have to resort to Main Concept if I can't find a solution. Or maybe create an intermediate uncompressed AVI for Procoder.

Additional information. Tried both projects with and without markers and with and without Write audio as PCM samples in signpost AVI and with RGB24 and RGB32. All have failed.

The project is a typical 4:3 DV project shot with my VX2000 that I have done for years.

Thanks for the help.

John

I think I have gotten something like that before. Rebooting fixed it. I usually reboot anyway just prior to a final render. It kind of cleans out the virtual cobwebs.

You might try looking in all the places you might have ever created a signpost. If the frameserver didn't clean up after itself then you might still have one there. Also, I seem to remember something about the frameserver not creating the signpost file you asked it too - you might direct it to create signpost xyz in location abc, and it might act like it's doing that, but really it's using the last location you set for an image sequence, or something like that. My memory on this is hazy but it was something I noticed in one of the betas of the frameserver when images sequences were added. I don't remember if it was totally fixed or not.

The best thing would be to try to drop an email to Satish through his debugmode website.

Always created the signpost file right on my desktop.
No problems with Vegas 8 and Satish Frameserver here.

Thanks guys.

I have tried rebooting and different locations for the signpost file - no go.

I think it must be something on the timeline that is different.

I am wondering if it isn't one of the plugins. Smart Smoother maybe? Except that one is only on project 2, not project 1.

try disabling all the FX & see what happens. I've used frameserver in 8 occationatly, but I know it works.

Also try just a part of the project. Could be a certain part is causing problems for some reason (but doesn't sound likely with the way frameserving works).

Ha ha, the simple fix....
switch your audio properties to 16 bit, if you have it set to 24 bit.

TGS,

You hit it right on the head. I don't even remember setting the bit depth to 24 instead of 16.

Thank you so much.
