Yes ....Options, preferences, routing..at the bottom you will see .Default audio recording device, click on the tab and select the default input that you want to use...motu 13l or whatever it is called in motu....Tucker

Thanks , but i know that one.:)
What i want is to set it to record on 13 only and not 13-14 , it seems it wants to record a stereo track by default which is weird as im sure most people are recording mono tracks....at least i think it would make sense to be able to set it that way.

Stereo is the default. No way to set mono or a single port as the default recording port.

Why? Am i wrong in assuming that most of the users will be recording mono tracks?

Good point. Will have a look to see if we can add this in the future.

This is that " record input templates" I've been asking for back in vegas 1 days. It would be nice to be able to pull up different I/O configs from a template. It seems like you could just save a file, but if you crash they all go back to default.

I am all for something to ease the setup for tracking. Doing it using templates means you have a consitent scenario that you'd use over.

How would you have this work?

1 stereo, or 2 mono, or 6 mono, or 2 stereo and 1 mono?
What if the routing is different for a given session?
10 tracks or 4 tracks?
Do you want new tracks created or have this template map to existing tracks?

Some real world applications of what these templates would contain as far as set up and how you would use them is what I am looking for here.

for me, if the record inputs were stored as part of a mix EVEN if the mix crashed someday, it would be good enough for me. Otherwise you guys might be going thru a nightmare trying to make templates. Like the starter said tho, the ability to choose mono or stereo for default is a GREAT idea for a lot of users I bet.

While were on this, I WISH that the mono inputs in the drop down menu would show the same number as the armed track does! Its hard to remember who's who. For instance looking at the armed track, ADAT 1 channel 5 shows " 6L " on my record button. BUT the pulldown menu calls it RME 1 5&6 or something. Hard to figure out which one is next. If it could also show vegas' number for it on the drop down menu that would be GREAT! Especially with these double wire cards where inputs 1-8 are card 1 adat 1 1-8, while inputs 9-16 are card 1 adat 3 1-8 and inputs 17-24 are card 2 adat 2 1-8.

gets REALLY tricky!

and while were on routing, can we please look into finding a way to route track one to output 1 without panning? or at least give us a pre pan fx send option ( this is kinda a sucky way to do it tho)? Or maybe a separate pan for the fx if we want it ? sounds so complicated seems easier to allow mono outs

While you're at it Peter, remember my problem with input device order - other interfaces (TB Santa Cruz and mobo audio) popping up in the middle of my MOTU inputs ?

I always start new sessions with a Default .VEG file that I create. I record mono most of the time for multi-track sessions. I have 8 inputs, or 4 stereo pairs. So what I do is just set-up 8 tracks for each input, which I call my record mono tracks. I also set up 4 stereo tracks for stereo recording. When I want to record to a specific input or inputs, therefore all I do is arm the track and hit record. When I'm finished recording on that input I just drop all the events to another track and that frees that input record track for the next time.
