Default length for media generators

Is there a way to change the default length of ten seconds for new Media Generators that I drag onto the timeline? The default still duration option in the preferences doesn't apply to it, and going into the internal preferences and searching for words like length, duration and generator I couldn't find anything. I would like to set them to 2 seconds by default since mostly I just drag black solid colors at the beginning and end of the timeline, and sometimes in other parts of it.

I don't believe so. However, if you select the area on the timeline first then right-mouse-button click on the track in the selected area you can choose insert generated media from there and it will match the selected length.

Another option, if you always use 2 seconds, you can create one then copy & paste for the additional events.

And another option, if it's just black you want i do that by simply leaving a gap in the timeline. I don't bother putting a black event in since anywhere there isn't an event you'll end up with black anyway. If you need black at the end i do that by setting the selection region to go from the beginning of the project to where the end of the final black should be then choose the 'render loop region' option when rendering.

"The default still duration option in the preferences doesn't apply to it,

It works if you use the "right mouse button > Insert generated media" method.

For NTSC projects you might want a black set at 16|16|16 and in that case you need to insert a solid color. Just something to keep in mind.

Once you've created one at 2 secs it should be present in your project media. You could create a bin full of solid colors and drag them to the timeline when you need them.

There's been one of those in my Solid Color tab for a long time.
There's also a white one at 235-235-235.

I wouldn't even bother with a solid color media generator in most cases. Just insert a Fade to Color envelope and set one of the colors to what you want.

The biggest reason to use a generated black is because if there's nothing there, if you render with alpha's it shows up as an alpha. you wouldn't want to bring that in to something & be expecting black.

Just insert a Fade to Color envelope and set one of the colors to what you want.

If you set it to black, the level will defaults to 0-0-0.
That's OK if it's for you personally but not OK if it's for broadcast which wants to see black at 16-16-16.

And so will solid color Black preset. One's not any more difficult to adjust than the other.

As I said earlier, that's why I have "black@16" and a "white@235" presets in my Solid Color tab.
Drag & drop - done.
