1. rendering times should be shorter.

3. Too easy to accidentally "nudge" opacity and other settings, resulting in needless re-rendering.

4. Normalizing an entire track at once still doesn't work properly. Often the clips off screen when this is done go flat-line.

Ok, what Vegas is weak in, or could use in future versions, just to feed the troll. (it's not as though there weren't already HUGE numbers of lists compiled all over the map)

Lack of HUI support, ie; Mackie, Digi, Tascam, Yamaha
Lack of OMF/AAF import/export
Surround is still somewhat kludgy. Separate busses would be great for effects on specific busses. (this can be done currently, but it's tough to keep track of)
Disappearing preview window. (Wish I could make it disappear and keep external mon)
Lockable templates for various project types. (2 tracks of vid, 6 tracks of audio as a template, 12 tracks of vid, 2 tracks of audio, etc. This is currently done via veg file templates)
Rotoscoping tools
Multiple groups, assignable by numeric or color values
Controllable color interface, ie SONAR 3, Edition. (without screwing the reg like Pinnacle does)
Stronger title tools, ie; Cayman Graphics
Selection(path)-determined blurring/glow/shadow/FX
Motion path smoothing (ala Dynapel with Sony codec)
Import of titles via Excel or other MS application
Favorite photo/rotoscoping/compositing editor (like forge does now w/audio)
Hardware integration for live streaming tools ala Sonic Foundry :-)
Open PSD's as native (Adobe license)
Some surround wizards to help the surround impaired author.
Dolby Headphone Surround support
Render farming
HDV support
10 Bit card support
HD capture tools
Further optimized rendering
More color correction tools
3D tools
Better/more masking tools
DV 50 support
SACD support (after all, it is a Sony company)
Blue Ray support
AE plug in tools. (Would slow the hell out of Vegas though)
Premiere plug in tools (would slow the hell out of Vegas though)
Direct frame serve tools
Better/more audio plugins
VST support w/o adapter
Better selection/clipout tools (Like commotion or AE, Boris)
Higher price. Much higher price. Raise it's perceived level of professionalism in the market by having a smaller user pool and greater value in the industry.

Zippy,

You seem to think that this forum's purpose should only be to point out the things that we think are "wrong" or "missing" from Vegas. I contend that it is not. While it is fine to bring up an honest discussion about what we would like to see improved there is an official place to do so:

http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/support/productsuggestion.asp

Here you are able to post all suggestions for what you think should be improved upon.

This forum is supposed to be about help. Expierenced users helping newbies. The hobbyist asking professionals for advice. And a general place for commrodary (speling??) amongst its users. I have looked at many other forums for many other products. Your idea of how it should be is exacty what many forums become, a place to voice a complaint. The problem is, when there ends up being more posts complaining about what's wrong and not collaborating about how to best use the program, the forum ceases to be useful to the users. Again there is a designated place for your concerns:

Zippy, in my years as a forum member, host, moderator, I've learned to try to temper my tongue, but dude, you have a lot of maturing to do. I've defended you once in the past, now I know that you generally deserve the crap that you get from others in here.

People try to reach out to help; you've never once said "thank you."
People respond to your posts to challenge you; you hide out and don't respond, but rather start another thread to divert attention.
People point out where you are wrong; you don't have the courage to recognize it in their gentle proddings.
You post what is yet another attempt to grandstand and get attention and people respond honestly and forthrightly; you still piss on them.

For the first time in all my years of being around here, using SoFo and now Sony products, I'm actually gonna use the "Ignore User" function. I've only once ever seen anyone behave as inconsiderate and obnoxious as you, and the only thing that matches him to you in my book is that he's a self-proclaimed racist. You really are a petty, small person if you can't see the answers to your post from many people above. Could you possibly be smaller? How old are you, anyway? 16? 14? Do your parents know how you are behaving in an otherwise (usually) civilized community?

Price-Vegas is a very affordable way to get into an NLE. I'd be happy to see a "Pro" version at 3x the price if the current version were also available.

Easy of use-anyone with a little experience with a mouse and a willingness to look things up can get up and running pretty quickly.

Wide range of formats can be used on the same timeline. Vegas is flexible.

Great forums

Simplicity. I work around a couple of much higher end systems and it just amazes me how they ever get any work done. Vegas compares well to an 844 system (aside from the fact that 844 is a steam shovel and Vegas is a hand trowel). I'm not working on those systems but I hear their complaints. And their praise of the 844. I often think "I can do that with Vegas". Just not instantly (or even in the same day sometimes)

Speed. Vegas is very fast to work with (but slow to render)

Spot,

I think you can assume this fellow is full grown. I feel as though I've known a few of them and they all end up being pariah's in life.

The only way "ignore user" will work is if most people do it. So I guess this is a good time to join the migration.

I think my main problem with Vegas is that it brought me into contact with a troll by the name of ZippYGaloo.

That, and the fact that you can't set opacity to 40%.

Also I RUB STIX. STILL NO GET FIRE!
riredale wrote on 10/20/2003, 10:43 PM
As I mentioned earlier in the week, the "Ignore User" needs to be able to do its work on the top level also. Then these issues would go away immediately.

This is the most professional forum I've ever come across, and I've learned a lot from you guys.

Satire... sort of.

While we may have a Zippy, he's no Alan J. Flavell. Alan at least knew what he was talking about. Well sort of. I used to drive him and his band of self-important HTML elitists nuts in CIWAH. A one of a kind newsgroup where Alan elected himself king. He chewed up and spit out newbies if they dared to ask a question "improperly" always trying to belittle them and so did his pals. Until I came along and turned the tables.

That was where I showed my darker side. Here I'm actually very well behaved. Really.

Just mention my name there and they all have a panic attack.

Think I'm kidding?

Sorry the reference to me above is from a site I once had long ago and it seems someone else took my domain name. Not to worry. If you want a unfiltered sample of my "humor" I offer the following two threads.

Those were the days.

Anyhow, I sense we could use a laugh or two and we should be thankful we just got a Zippy and not a Alan. Laugh at me or with me, regardless I think you'll find the following satire funny. I had fun writing it.

You can get an idea of the kind of snob Alan is just my looking at his web site. Who do you know that puts Mr. as part of the caption to their image?

Too bad you didn't read SPOT's book and learn something. If you had, maybe you wouldn't keep bringing up the silly stuff you do.

"describing AT LEAST ONE fault or short coming in Vegas."
Not the right question, should be "what features would help to make your life easier" which has been discussed before..Are you the sort of person who says the glass is Half Empty rather then Half Full. Try and look ont the positve (positive) side of things ( I can see a song comming on here).
Why not Commison Sony to build you the perfect Vegas, I am sure for the right amount of money they will.

Glad to see your CAPS lock key has been fixed at last

Increase the price? I truly that was said in jest. Otherwise, I just can't understand what I'm hearing. We all know that Vegas is an extremely useful tool (well, most of anyway), and its price is not the least of its likeable characteristics. Like many industries, this one operates with the notion that higher price means it's more "pro". And here we have a product line created by SoFo (now under the reigns of Sony) that put value and commitment to the products and its users before anything else. Vegas' quality and usefulness speaks volumes more than a higher price ever could. Who cares if people think it's pro just because the word "pro" is in the product's name (hmmm)?

Vegas was one (if not the) first NLE to natively support 24p, and definitely the first to support Panasonic's 24PA, they also support HD, and were pioneers of realtime editing (even tho I smirked at the concept at the BEA/NAB in 1999 when they gave me a little demo...my bad). Did I mention that the former 2 were added in a FREE upgrade? They don't wait for whole number version changes or charge you for point revisions (0.1,0.2,etc.) ala Mac OSX. When features are ready, they give it to the user; no games. That's the difference. Sorry, but I really don't get what price has to do with the actual quality of a product (who cares about the 'perceived' quality? If someone's not going to take a look at a piece of software unless it's at least over $1k, then they've lost out.)

Also, sorry for not adding to this thread's topic, but it's hard to take a thread seriously if you don't take the poster seriously.

Jive - sadly, it is true. A higher price does have a large impact. While working in the School of Business at UW-Madison, the Executive MBA program decided to reduce enrollment. The best way to do it, they figured, would be to raise the price to reduce the interest.

They ended up with a dramatic increase in the number of people who wished to attend the program. (I believe it was two or three times higher.)

I hope Sony doesn't raise the price too much (if at all.) It would quickly price me (a hobbyist/semi-pro) out of the product line... unless, of course, they keep the great upgrade pricing.
