Best AND quickest? Not sure that combination will work all that well.

But... if quickest is more important than "best" then don't use Vegas. Buy a stand-alone consumer DVD burner that accepts firewire input and burns a simple DVD. No pc required.

So Zipps... What would YOU think would be the Best/Quickest approach? Or are you SOOOOO new to this that you don't even have an opinion yet?

I don't claim to "know everything" either. So what's YOUR point?

Ohhhh I see now..... right.... totally clear Zipps.

How about you keep your trap shut from now on then... as obviously, as you have just very clearly stated, you don't know enough to be able to have an opinion even about something as simple as this.

Ho ho.. look who's calling who a hothead? Cute.

Or... are you the other person pretending to be Zippy?

The quickest way to get this thread to shut up is to answer the question.
As Liam suggested, that's a fast way. Another fast way is to get a Firewire MPEG encoder and feed your video to it via firewire, and let it recapture as MPEG. It's a higher quality encode, and is totally realtime. Better than anything software. You can get hardware encoders starting at 299.00 from ADS. Instant DVD, it's called, and it's a pretty impressive hardware encode. prices go up from there.
Zippy, take a Xanax or something.

Either a Philips or Pioneer set top DVD recorder.
Only down side is enter chapter titles is painful and you're stuck with the 'canned' backgrounds that they come with.
But if you don't want anything that looks creative they're the way to go.

Ok... so NOW you decide it is the time to give us your real needs here. Why didn't you bother to tell us what your full requirements are in the first place?

What a waste of space!

LV - Maybe he didn't know; wasn't sure of his ground; might have looked foolish . . . asking for one wants, in a straight way, is sometimes darn hard for some people .. yeah?

.. . I'm still reading Zipps .. still reading your posts .. .

Grazie.... do what you need to do... I am just telling you (and others who are reading this of course) that I just don't believe it (Zippy and his posts that is).

Zippy is someone who has been around here for a looong time already. Just what are the chances that someone who has been around here for so long would feel they have to give such a general question to something that is really VERY specific to their needs and situation.

I am not buying it. I don't like to see this forum abused by this persona of Zippy.

Not quite sure what your specific angle is on Zippy... you keep mentioning you are reading his posts but I guess I am puzzled as to what you are really trying to say (to Zipps and to everyone else) or what you are expecting the persona of Zippy to do?

No reply needed. I am just thinking out loud.

I purchased a Sony RDR-GX7 for situations where I want to go from any firewire device direct to DVD...works great- just takes a while to finalize the disc- you can continue to play and add info to the DVD in the Sony player until you are done- then finalize and it will playback in most, if not all, DVD players. Its a small investment - under $600 tho....

Which models have the firewire ports?

quite afew of them do.

Does Panasonic make one with firewire ports?

probably

The Pioneer 510H-S is very good, it has an 80GB hard drive and firewire In/Out. The 310-S has firewire In/Out but no hard drive. If you think you will ever need to go from DVD to DV I would recommend one of these. (It won't let you copy a protected DVD of course.)

Zippy, at least pretend like you do a little homework. You ask frivolous time wasting questions that you could have easily researched on Google. If you can read and post on this board, than you should have all the mental faculties necessary to do a Google search and find the answer to your question. It for this reason it seems to me and others that your not in fact looking for answers, but just seeking attention by asking pointless questions.

It seems, then, he gets what he wants...

"Just trying to save the lengthy (and possibly misguided) legwork and get direction from the "pros" to the right and "professional" components. "

That statement does not hold water if all you need to know is whether or not a piece of equipment has a specific feature. Look it up yourself, do a little of your own legwork, and stop littering the board with your mindless questions.

I've heard it said that if one person tells you your a cow, you would be crazy to believe them. But if many people tell you your a cow, you had better start checking your a** for a tail.
