I can't really follow what you are talking about, or can fathom the workflow you are trying to work out...

If the basic question is how do I reunite the separte pieces of a clip that has numerous splits in it without deleteing all but one of the end pieces and dragging the edge to where the now-deleted used to be... the answer is simple: Unsplit Wizard in Excalibur.

I was told once by my boss the M100 guy that CTI is a term that was coined for M100 and that no one else uses it.

CTI is the cursor point on the timeline. Where the playback head would be if Vegas had one.
