Are you insane? I'm staggered by how much has been added.

> how displeased I am with Vegas 5 after playing around with it for the last hour

As long as that! You really have studied it in depth!

Read the New Feature White Paper.

No question, some people will not be happy with the upgrade.

Something to consider: Vegas 4.0 was/is already an excellent package. It's hard to improve on perfection. :)

I guess I'm going to have to look close at this one.

It looks like the capture app still doesn't keep the date/time with the clip like Scenalyzer does via naming (you lose track of what clip was shot when), still no nested timelines (which, to me is significant), plus titling still pretty much looks the same. Good thing I have Boris Graffitti. The Bezier masks might be quite interesting though...

Others have reported significant improvements, however, I guess I'm going to have to look close. Even the What's New section of the Help file doesn't seem that big to warrant a full version change; maybe a 4.5 change?

I guess I'll have to do some digging... :)

If I am missing some big stuff, maybe some of you can point it out...

Zip

Your response is about Vegas 5.0 is precisely what I and others in this forum would would have expected from you. Sadly, you are very, very predictable.

Why don't you honour your original pledge not to post here again?

I only ever saw one post in favour of you staying, so I can only conclude that the majority of the Sony Forum users welcomed with open arms, your decision to permanently leave the forum.

So if you are an honorable person, do us all a favour and stand by your previous decision not to post here again.

Of course, if you are willing to make a positive contribution, and not play "mind games" and be a responsible forum member we might have a change of heart about you.

Think about it

I too am disappointed that DVDA 2 doesn't have more themes. Guess I'll just have to keep creating my own themes in PhotoShop...

Zip, weren't you thumping your chest in here a few months back about some $30K video job you got or something? That's probably enough for a G5 and Final Cut Pro...
RafalK wrote on 4/19/2004, 5:21 AM
Good Job ZIPPY, keep talking all you want. As far as I am concerned you STILL BOUGHT version 5. What? Apple's Final Crap didn't awe you long enough??
Poor Zippy, anger gets you attention, right? Quick, someone change the baby's diaper.
Cheesehole wrote on 4/19/2004, 6:08 AM
He could be using the demo. What's the deal... calling someone a baby because he doesn't agree with you?

You don't know jack about the "majority of the Sony Forum users" - stop playing Forum Cop. It's interesting to see how some people react to criticism of Vegas.
RafalK wrote on 4/19/2004, 7:37 AM
Zippy doesn't just criticize. Zippy spews anger. Have you read his posts?
Cheesehole wrote on 4/19/2004, 7:45 AM
I see far more spewing in the replies.

Hi Zippy!

How odd, all the features you listed are the reasons I'm upgrading! I guess we all have different needs, but Bezier Masking is enough for me to plonk down the cash all by itself - the rest are bonuses. I guess it all depends on what you need.

I for one am hoping the interface hasn't changed much at all - I like the Vegas interface. I guess I find out in an hour.

All the best,

Zippy is a glass-is-half-empty kinda guy. No, actually, he's a glass-is-completely-empty-and-I-wouldn't-drink-that anyway-I-can-make-a-better-drink-than-that kinda guy.

You shouldn't be disappointed. It says a lot for the streamlining of the GUI that so much functionality can be added and yet superficially, almost nothing has changed.
busterkeaton wrote on 4/19/2004, 8:37 AM
That's in addition to being a I-said-I-wouldn't-post-again-but-I-couldn't-help-but-express-how-displeased-I-am kinda guy.
JonnyMac wrote on 4/19/2004, 8:39 AM
I particularly like how the many dialogs have been modified to tree-structures instead of standard input fields and controls. This a very clean approach and makes room for unlimited feature updates.
Cheesehole wrote on 4/19/2004, 8:40 AM
The feature list may not have a lot of bullets, but it has depth. Give it time to sink in. I'm just now realizing how cool SWF support on the timeline really is.
roryk wrote on 4/19/2004, 10:38 AM

sorry to refresh a zippy post (arrgh!) but that is a good point about EditDV...

>> Lastly, I think this really shows how Sony see Vegas.... as a CONSUMER application. Just as I've said before I think it will ultimately end up like EditDV.

EditDV was a generation ahead of the operating systems and drivers (supported realtime preview, pan/zoom/rotate... all in ver 1.0). The evolutionary similarites with Vegas are scary. But there's no reason to panic if Sony Pictures Dignital Inc takes care of its loyal customers (this includes keeping arms length from the rest of Sony).

I seem to recall a Zippy post last summer where he criticized the Vegas interface for being "old-fashioned," presumably because it hadn't taken on the Windows XP look yet. Now that that's happened, he thinks it looks like a toy. Go figure. There's just no pleasing some people.

For what it's worth, this upgrade has more value to me than the V4 one did...
ghost072 wrote on 4/20/2004, 10:41 AM
Zippy deserves everything he gets. It isn't like people go looking to pick on the guy. He intentionally comes in here to whine and cry in ALL CAPS, because he is starved for attention - and half the time, the "feature" that is "missing" he could have found if he just used the help file before logging into this forum to SCREAM how much Vegas sucks and FCP or Premiere is better. The guy is the classic example of a troll and the Vegas forum is the bridge he lives under.

To quote the Zippmeister:

Subject: Vegas NEEDS TO POLISH UP ITS INTERFACE!

When I look at Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro I see a clean, easy to look at interface. Something that looks current...that looks cutting edge. Apple and Adobe are putting efforts into making their products look really nice and beilieve it or not that's helpful to the user, especially when you are staring at a screen for days at a time!! I think IT'S ABOUT TIME FOR VEGAS TO GET WITH IT AND POLISH UP IT'S INTERFACE!

Like I said, you can please some of the people all of the time......and you know the rest!
