Deleting Clips etc

Help for a family vacation movie level user: When I delete, say, a sound file from an audio track, the audio file on the right, next to the deleted file, 'moves in' to take the place of the deleted file - how do I stop this happening? Thanks.

Un-Click Auto Ripple = Ctrl+ R ( the icon just to the right of Automatic Cross fades)

I think you've got Auto Ripple turned on. Look at the Toolbar with your mouse cursor. You should be able to Identify this useful tool's icon by gently sweeping over the various icons up there - yeah? If it is "depressed" click on it will switch it off. Hey, while you're there, have a look at its dropdown options . .lots to use here. It really is afeature! Honest!
