demonstration of use of 3d track motion with texts, someone got that?

kerrying wrote on 6/12/2004, 12:11 AM
Age definitely caught up with me.. I was quite certain just some time back, I came across a post in which the sender kindly shared with us a veggie that demonstrate the use of the brand new 3d track motion on animating generated texts with fabulous result.

The post is followed by a few replies that briefly but informatively discussed some of the methods/techniques used to achieve the look (white background, translucent texts rotating in 3d, dreamy, spacey looking, really neat..). The sender, I thougt, was someone from Sony..

And gosh.. now I can not remember where the post is.. man..!!

Anyone know of the whereabout of the post I am talking about here?

Thanks, folks..

It's probley on the sundance site (http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/home1.htm).

Check in their veggie section.

Checked there, too.. but my fragile memory seems to suggest that it actually came from one of the post here.. I think you folks had a quick discussion about it too.

Vegas 5 just got released and everyone is got really excited about such new features as 3d track motion, beizer masking and etc.. Could it be a Satish's post..? Argghh.. Hmmm.. I really need medication on improving my memory..

Ben's growing title look pretty neat but, that is not the one..

The one I am referring to has a white background with digits/letters flying (more like orbiting around a Y-axis in 3D space, at a approx. 45 degree camera angle).

I am actually trying to emulate a certain look and object/camera angle (like the one I saw in that veggie) and I can't seem to get it looks just right.

Coming from VV3 and VV4 with only video editing and graphic design background, finally got a test machine (with Win 2000) to play around and try out V5 and see if I should hand over the moolah to Sony. VV4 runs perfect on the production workstation (with Win 2000) but going over to V5, hmm.. well.. ;-)

DVDA 2 is awesome, though.. althought I can't help but feeling they could have hold back the release date and give us all that DVDA2 has to offer right when it is at ver. 1. Marketing, and moneymaking, that's what.. Arrgghh.. ;-)

Thanks for the help, folk, really appreciate it, please keep it coming. But, aarrgghh.. I just checked out "Jeffery Fisher" tutorial veggies on Sundance, too but, those are not the one either..

I remember one of you all asked about how to make the digits/letters look a little traslucent around the edges and stuffs..

I was really trying to see how far the 3d track motion can go, in terms of motion graphic design. I like the idea of generating most things with minimal tools but deliver maximum impact and result within a streamlined workflow and environment. I think V5 is getting there (but VV4 upgrade still delivers big punch for the price it asks, though.. the V5+DVDA2 bundle is more like "buy DVDA2 and get V5 upgrade now..!!" .. ha.. just kidding.. ;-) )

And is there going to be a fix for the "invisible" custom setting bar in track motion window? How about the behaviour of the window rezooming the timeline everytime we undo? V5 (like VV4, only less apparent) has some occasional hiccup in interface doing little funny things, and despite the fact that most people hate the hello kitty look, I think adopting a muted color scheme for the interface is a neat idea - heps in perceiving the color of the video. But readability of the icon wise.. that is another topic altogether.

So, coming back to the veggie, anybody else has any clue at all? Please, please, please..? ;-)

Can't find the thread, but here is the link to the website I think...Hope it helps.

The other tut Matthew published is the 2 cats one:

Might be worth doing a search for his name (Chaboud?)

Yes,.. that's the one, man.. thanks alot..!!

Now all I have to do is to find the orignial thread and relook at what you folks talked about.. But, wait.. you say you can't find it..? I am going to have some "fun" doing the search now I think.. arrgghhhh..

Now I remember I came accross that 2-cats compositing thing, too.. Very neat, indeed..

Oops, I described the wrong things..? My apology if I got things mixed up, my bad..

That veg is a pefect example of what the 3d track motion can do (in addition to doing what track motion can do, of cause) in term of crossing over to generating motion graphic that look like something coming straight out of Adobe After Effects or some 3d animation package. Beside that, I can't think of any other technique the 3d track motion can give us to deliver motion graphic that goes 'wow.."..

I found the thread, from chaboud, but I think he never share the veggie, just the video.. I must have remembered wrongly, my bad, definitely..

I am most interested in knowing the fastest way to work out axis degrees (how much you need to tilt x, y and z-axis, for example to get a look of, say, objects orbiting around y-axis with camera looking dowing from 45 degree), in addition to trial and error.

Thanks a ton for the help, folks..

Pleasure! Now all I need is someone to answer my DVDA2 problems . . see other thread . .

Yes, the veggie was never posted. I think should partition Chaboud to post it.
(Something tells me the Vegas Engineers are very busy right now. Anyone want to say Vegas 5.0b? Anyone thinking Decklink support yet?)

I got the two cats, the cube and the text thing I think, think I had to ftp it straight from the Sony server, he did post the links, maybe they've been taken down.

Bit busy right now but if anyone can tell me where I'll gladly upload them somewhere (Hope I'm not breaching anyones copyright).

Bob.
