I'm using Vegas Pro 16, and I'm trying to import mov files from my iPhone, but the Deprecated Features tab (where I'm told I can enable mov import) is simply missing. Can someone help with the solution? Thanks in advance!
Hmm, that would explain that. What's odd is that I can partially import the files, but while the audio comes in fine the video is just a green screen. Hopefully someone else knows my solution in 16! Thanks @Dexcon
It's not odd, it just means the video isn't supported. Install Quicktime for certain older formats but that won't help you here.
If it's a newer format that VP 16 doesn't support (your camera is newer than your editing software) you need to transcode to another format it does support. What's in the .mov is what matters.
I just upgraded to 19, and enabled Quicktime in the Deprecated Features tab, restarted, and imported my mov files, but now the video is just blank, while the audio is perfectly imported. Any ideas what went wrong? Thanks!
Enabling Quicktime does nothing here as I mentioned.
In VP 19, go to preferences/ file io and reset to defaults or uncheck legacy AVC and legacy HEVC decoding. This definitely works if you have an Intel CPU with iGPU but may not work with some other GPUs (search for past threads on this).
As Eric requested if you can provide MediaInfo we can give you better info. I have IPhone DolbyHDR, IPhone 12 HEVC and FilmicPro Iphone files here and all load in VP 18 and 19.
Thanks @EricLNZ and @RogerS. I tried the default reset in File I/O but that didn't start showing the video track. But oddly, my layout view suddenly switched from black (which was default upon first open) to a more traditional gray and charcoal mix, and the mov file in the bi went from a standard video thumb with the play arrow to the green screen I was seeing in VP 16. As for the type of mov, I can't find any of the details you note RogerS, but I can say I have an iPhone 12 set to "most compatible", and I shot in 720. EricLNZ I couldn't open that link you sent. Thanks again gents!
I think that the MediaInfo link given by EricLNZ has very recently changed (as in the last few days) ... it is now https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo from a Google search.
From from many posts over many years, video from iPhones and Samsung phones is almost always recorded in Variable Frame Rate (VFR), something with which Vegas Pro is not comfortable. When this occurs, the usual advice on the forum over the years has been to convert your VFR video to Constant Video Rate (CFR) via a transcoder such as the free Handbrake - https://handbrake.fr/ .
This doesn't look like compatibility mode for the iPhone 12, this is high efficiency (HEVC). Enabling legacy HEVC in Vegas will break playback of these files giving you a green screen. Double-check your phone's settings.
Thanks again gents... before I work my way through newer replies, here's my PC properties: Device name EditingBook Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4702MQ CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB Device ID B43E7832-968B-4790-89DB-AB64D24E8201 Product ID 00326-10000-00000-AA421 System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
@RogerS, I'm definitely set to Most Compatible in my iPhone settings. Is this what I want for future videos I shoot? Forgive my confusion, but you're saying I don't want Legacy HEVC enabled, correct? Thanks!
Open your file with it, and switch it to text view ("View" > "Text"): Highlight all the text in the window, copy it and paste it in your forum post. You can put it in a code block using the blue < > brackets above the input window.
HEVC is not the most compatible mode for the Iphone 12, ergo you are not setting the phone as you think you are.
You do not want legacy HEVC checked.
Your CPU is old and uses the Intel® HD Graphics 4600 which is no longer supported in Vegas, so you won't get the benefit of greater decoding compatibility that the HD 530 and newer integrated graphics have. Still the file *should* open.
Thanks @RogerS, Yeah, this PC is 6 years old. The mov files open, but it's still just audio with just a green screen rather than video. I'll have to replace it soon. If anyone has any ideas, even if it's just to set my phone to work around this, I'm all ears!
