Device control PTT works but not capture!

Aje wrote on 10/30/2005, 1:09 AM
Have captured from my cam for years without problems.
This problem happened suddenly yesterday.
All in capturewindow is greyed out and there is no devicecontrol.
When hitting capturevideobutton the preview window is filled with
horisintal small bars but no capture is done.

When trying PTT there is no problems (device control functions).
This goes for VV5 and VV6 but no problems capturing with VV4.

Have searched the forum but cannot find a sulotion.
Im thankfull for every hint.

Are you running Vegas 6.0c?
Aje wrote on 11/1/2005, 8:06 AM
No I´m using Vegas 6b build 115.
Before I had problem with device control in PTT
now its in capture.
VV4 functions in both.
Thanks for answer

1. Make sure that device control has not been turned off (it's in the Options menu).

2. Make sure you haven't enabled "DV-In" on your camcorder. Depending on your camera brand, this may have different names. When enabled, this sets the camera to pass through incoming analog video, and the camcorder acts as an external analog to DV converter. In earlier versions of capture, especially with my old Pinnacle capture products, this setting could cause capture to cease working. I don't think it is a problem with Vegas capture but, depending on your combination of O/S, camera, and version of Vegas, it might. Just make sure you disable the A/D passthrough.

Thanks for answer!
1. Device control checked
2. I have 2 camcorders Sony Dig8 and panasonic 400 both are set
right and both aren´t recogniozed of VV6 /VV5 capture but they function in VV6/VV5 PTT and in VV4 capture and PTT - strange.
All this happened some days ago and the only reason I can think of
is after installing a free Cad-program named "Cadstd Lite".
I uninstalled it and let XP go to an earlier point but its still the same
problem.
Should I update to VV6 ?

Aje? You say you are already on Vegas 6b? Why are you asking, "Should I update to VV6?" - I don't understand . . G

Vegas 6.0c fixes capture and print to tape fixes for some DV devices that didn't work under XP Service Pack 2. You are encouraged to update to 6.0c if you have not done so.

I have now updated to VV6c - sorry no change!
Device control in PTT functions but not in capture.
Why does VV4 have no problems with this issue?
I can live with capturing via VV4 and PTT in VV6 but there must be
a solution to this problem!

Have you tried the demo of Scenalyzer? It would be a quick way to determine if the problems you are having are at the Windows level, the hardware level, or something specific to Vegas. If you can capture in Scenalzyer, then the problem is Vegas; otherwise the problem lies in one of the other two apps.

Yes - device control and capturing worked
great in scenanalyzer demo - thanks for advice!
This must mean that the problem is in Vegas!
Perhaps its better to use Scenanalyzer when capturing
into VV6 but it must be embarrasing to Sony!

In the interest of providing you with a workaround, you could point Vegas 6.0c to the capture app .exe installed by Vegas 4.

Vegas 6.0c>Prefs>video>external capture application

Thanks for the workaround tip - now it functions.
I didn´t realize that capture was a program itself.
I tried to open just vidcap.exe in the VV6 folder and got this message

"The device VfWWDM32.dll could not be opened"

When I open capture within VV6 I don´t get this message
Searching for this file gave 5 hits in different places in windows
but all with small letters (vfwwdm32.dll) if this means anything.
There are 5 copies of the file and none can be opened?

OK I can work with the workaround with VV4 capture but if
VV6 vidcap does a better work than VV4´s vidcap i would like
to use it.

Thanks for all answers this forum is really greate!
