Dialog boxes don't display fully

This may seem like a strange problem, but I hope somebody out there can help me. I just bought Movie Studio 4 this weekend., and I love the program. However, there's one big problem. Many of the dialog boxes (inclduing the one to register the software, the Preferences dialog, and the dialog to choose formats, etc., for burning DVDs) don't display fully. The right side of the dialog is chopped off, so many of the menu buttons and radio buttons are inaccessible. This makes it impossible to make choices in several areas of the program.

I bought the software at Best Buy and, thinking I might have gotten a bum copy, exchanged it for another, but when I installed it (after uninstalling the other) the same problem existed. I felt sure others must have experienced the same thing, but was unable to find any topics on the forum boards that addressed this issue.

Any suggestions, anyone?

Thanks.

Have you adjusted your Windows fonts to a larger size or changed the font? What is your screen resolution?

Thanks for the tip. Your email reminded me that a few weeks back I'd changed my DPI settings to try to increse the image size of fonts, etc., on my screen. I switched the DPI back to the normal setting and now the dialog boxes display in full.

Now I'm back to the problem I had before, however. This Dell laptop I have, set to its normal settings, displays everything extremely small. I practically go blind reasing email! But I guess that's an issue for another message board!

One more question about Movie Studio, if you don't mind. Is there any way to accessa scrubber bar to scrub through video on version 4, or is that only on version 6?

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Greg,

If you just purchased MS4 you should contact Sony about getting a free upgrade to MS6. That might help solve the issue.

It's in v4, but it's hidden! IN MS, go to Options and then <Shift>click on Preferences and you'll see an Internal tag. Select that, and type "speed" in the search window at the bottom. This will bring up the "Show Speed Control" option. Change the value to true and click on OK. Do not touch anything else in there or you can end up with problems! It's not a sudden death situation because there's a reset option, but even so....

Thanks for the help, IanG. I now have the speed control up and working. Is 2x the fastest you can scrub through on v. 4? Does version 6 have a better/faster scrub feature? Someone else suggested that I might be able to get a free upgrade to v. 6 from Sony as I just purchased v. 4 last weekend. Anybody know if that's true?

V6's scrubber goes up to 20x (and my amp goes up to 11). You'll have to ask Sony whether the free upgrade's available, but I'm told they're reasonable about these things.

In case you haven't seen it, here is a copy of the text from a post from the thread about the new VMS: You might have to call in or e-mail Sony to get it.

NOTICE: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If, like me, you purchased Movie Studio + DVD 4.0 within the LAST 30 DAYS, Sony will give you a FREE upgrade to Movie Studio + DVD 6.0. Also, I was offered (on the phone with Sony) an upgrade to Platinum 6.0 for $30 even. Bought it and love it.
