Hi all

i have a problem with V6 rendering a project that in properties i set the aspect ratio in the templates to 720x480 widescreen, in the preview i can see the work in WS but when rendered it turns out to be like 4:3 anamorphic and some sffects that i used like splited screens with a black line to separate clips look at the samples i made in the links below:

how i see it in DVDA= http://www.geocities.com/humber83/DVDA.jpg
how i see it in V6= http://www.geocities.com/humber83/V6.JPG

is this some setting i did wrong with the aspect ratio or what?

i need help with this since this is my first 16:9 widescreen project, i really dont know what setting are needed to work fine in V6, even after following the manual it still dont work, i have used other 16:9 video files in DVDA that are recognized like 16:9 but with my projects is a no go. TIA for any help.

Let's see if I can help here.
Looking at the DVDA image the black line doesn't extend to the top and bottom of the frame. Is that your main problem?
If so, first off you need to make certain that you're seeing all of the frame in the preview window. Make certain you're using an Auto, not Full mode otherwise it's possible you're not seeing all of the frame so you've probably made the line too short.
Also be aware that most graphics apps assume square pixels, so you need to size anything to match the full frame that you're working at ignoring the pixel aspect ratio. For example PAL 4:3 is 720x576 except that's the number of non square pixels. Using square pixels in PS etc you need a frame 787x576 to get things to line up.
When in doubt about any of these things, save a preview screen snopshot at Best-Full with Simulate Device Aspect on, opne that image in PS or whatever your graphics app is. Then you have an image the correct size to work with, you can delete that layer later or create a new file of the same size. I never try to remember all the numbers, just use that simple approach and I;ve never gone wrong.

Hope this helps rather than confuses!

Bob.

If you right-click on the clip and select Properties/Media, you will see the setting that Vegas has chosen for the clip pixel aspect ratio. If it is not NTSC DV Widescreen, you can change it here.

Assuming of course that the source material really is 16:9!
That's quite likely to be part of the problem, I've found a few cases where the flag doesn't end up in the AVI file, shooting with an anamorphic adaptor is one for sure but I've had the same problem with 16:9 digibeta footage coming in from the J30 VCRs via 1394.
