If the Steam edition is like everything else on Steam, it's Vegas with it's standard DRM & Steam's DRM on top of it. And you need Steam to run it.

What exactly do you mean by that? :)

One weakness with Steam Edition, you can't have multiple Vegas Pro applications running.

Hmm okay. But I don't think that would be a big problem for me. I mean you can just save ur current one and start a new one.

You have the Vegas SN/server check & need Steam to run it, which is DRM.

For projects with lots of edits & possible render time, I'll have two copies open: one editing a project & another pre-rendering a done section of the same project. Saves quite a bit of time. Most programs don't support multiple instances at once any more so most users might not even try this any more.

You can use a sandboxing program such as Sandboxie to have multiple instances of anything open, including steam. Harder, but still possible

Most NLEs have background rendering/caching and support for multiple timelines/sequences.

Premiere, Avid, FCP, Resolve, etc. all do this.

The workflow has evolved. Most people won't bother with that because there is no need to resort to it when working in other NLEs.

Consumer NLEs have now started implementing these features (smart caching, etc.).

I would never buy an application from Steam. If your steam account gets banned, hacked, etc. Then you lost access to everything on it - including non-game applications purchased there. It isn't worth the risk, IMO. It isn't even more convenient, IMO.
