Differences Between an Audio Bus Channel and a FX Send Channel Strip

Is there any real difference between the two?

I've been doing some experimenting with the two and they seem to be functionally the same.

You can route an audio track to both types, select pre/post fader, mess with the automation, etc.

They are similar in terms of send/return. The assignable Fx return is the same as a sub-master bus except you cannot easily route an audio track directly to it. Assignable Fx are good for reverbs, delays and such like with traditional hands-on mixing console.
