Digicam to DVD - how do you keep the sound?

I have a new Sony Digicam. I copied my DVD files to the computer using the enclosed software and got MPEG-2 files. I copied these to Vegas and rendered them and exported these via DVD Architect to a DVD. The sound was gone. Sony tech support said that you cannot convert their small dvd format to a larger dvd format while concatenating the smaller dvds because the sound is ac3. The forums seem to indicate that you can convert mpeg-2 files by rendering the audio to a separate (.wav) file and then use vegas and dvid architect to export to .avi. Can anyone describe the process for doing this?

Much appreciated,

David

Search this forum and the Vegas forum using the term VOB and you'll find lots and lots of discussion about this.

Basically what you need is something like DVD2AVI to extract the AC3 from the files and save it as a WAV file.
